Tutor Tip
From our archives.

As learners are building their skills, it can feel very challenging to remember that the process is often longer and slower than tutors may anticipate. As you are practicing skills, it may be tempting to correct all errors during the lesson. This can feel overwhelming to the learner and interrupt their thinking and processing. Here are some ideas to keep the lesson moving and help your learner stay focused.

Identify the skill you are working on in that particular exercise. Only correct errors specific to that skill. Note other errors so they may be addressed in a different session.

If the learner is reading, write down incorrect words as they occur. Go back after the passage and revisit those corrections.

Save writing samples. If you are working on capitalization and punctuation, focus on those skills only. Revisit the sample in a later session to make other corrections, add details, or expand the content.
Bunco Organizers Needed
We are planning to host a Bunco fundraiser again this fall. Volun teers are needed to help organize this event, which will raise much-needed funding for the adult literacy program. If you can help, please  email  us with Bunco in the subject line.

Adults Remain On Our Wait List

There are 133 potential learners currently on our waiting list. These learners need to be tested before they can enter the program, and are not ready to be matched. We have a different group of learners who are tested and ready to be matched.

Matching these learners is our priority as they have been waiting the longest for a tutor. We do everything we can to match our tutors and learners as fast as possible. We must find a pair that has the same availability, and this often slows down the process.

If you are currently waiting for a learner, we are working on setting up a match meeting as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.

We have closed our waiting list to new additions until further notice.

If you have specific questions please feel free to email Jody or Yadira.
