Next Week's Tip:
Health Requirements (Immunizations)

Finding a place to live is probably one of the most important things on your to do list.  Whether you plan to live on- or off-campus, the Tips below will help you get started:
Today's Tip: Finding Housing

Housing options for new international students are dependent on whether you are entering the University as a new first-year student or as a transfer student.  No matter where you live, you will still have an opportunity to become an active member of the University of Maryland community.

ON-CAMPUS HOUSING FOR
NEW (FRESHMEN)
UNDERGRADUATES
New freshmen entering the university are given priority to residence hall housing as it becomes available.  If you have not done so already, request residence hall housing by completing the housing and dining online form on the application portal .  If you are having difficulties, take a look at this helpful video with instructions on how to complete the form. You may submit your housing request along with or separate from your enrollment confirmation.  Students are assigned to rooms in the order in which requests are received.  Preferences for roommates, areas of campus, specific buildings, etc. will be taken into account.  For best consideration, all preferences should be submitted to [email protected]   as soon as possible.  Residence hall housing is renewable for a second year and typically for a third year for students who enter the residence halls as freshmen.

WHAT TO BRING
You can find a list of items to pack and other useful information on the website of the Office of Residence Life.

HOUSING FOR NEW UNDERGRADUATE TRANSFER
STUDENTS
On-campus housing cannot be guaranteed for transfer students.  If you are interested in living in the residence halls, you should request residence hall housing by completing the housing and dining online form, which is on the application portal , as soon as possible.  All housing requests are initially placed on a wait list.  If space becomes available, even into the early weeks of the semester, students can be moved off the wait list and assigned a room and roommate.

OFF-CAMPUS HOUSING
If you plan to live off-campus, please take a look at the Off-Campus Housing Services office , one of the best resources to search for housing in College Park and its surrounding areas. You can use their online tools to start your search, including:
-
OCH Database : A housing search database with available area rentals
-
Roommate Finder    : An online service that helps you get connected with other students

ONLINE WORKSHOP - GUIDE TO OFF-CAMPUS HOUSING SEARCH
We are also introducing an online workshop you can "attend" for more detailed advice on how to find local housing and what to understand about US lease agreements.

BE SAFE
Whether you use the University of Maryland's Off-Campus Housing Services or not, make sure to take a look at their   resources and tips and remember never to send any money until you have seen the accommodations and signed a lease.
If you do not intend to enroll at UMD and would like to stop receiving these emails, please inform the admissions office.
Sincerely,
