New Faces For The Council -  After what can only be described as a shocker of a Democratic Primary, we're going to review what happened. Not only that, but we also have a great recap of our Speaker Series event with Ward 2 Councilmember Jack Evans.

Even if you missed your chance to meet with Jack at DCAR HQ, you may have another opportunity coming up later this month. Join us for our 2016 Summer Mixer with our friends at the DC Council. Cool off with us over delicious food and light refreshments.

Heads Are Still Spinning
New Faces Will Grace The Halls Of The DC Council Building In 2017.
The political picture on the national stage came into focus with 2016's penultimate Democratic Primary in the District of Columbia. And that picture shows a presumptive nominee for President in Hillary Clinton who ran away with nearly 80% of the vote. Some may say it was a predictable end, but nobody could have predicted the outcome for DC's local officials.
Ward 4 Councilmember Brandon Todd will hold on to his position on the Council. However, Ward 7, 8 and an At-Large seat will see new faces. Former Mayor Vince Gray bested his former protege Yvette Alexander in Ward 7. Trayon White won a close race against LaRuby May in Ward 8. Most surprisingly, Robert White ousted At-Large Councilmember Vince Gray.

For analysis, check out these pieces by the Washington Post and the Washington Times. Lastly, listen to the recap from the Kojo Nnamdi Show -  Guest: Vince Gray | Guests: Trayon White, Robert White.
Speaker Series Review: Jack Evans
We caught up with the 25-year veteran of the DC Council to get the inside track on Metro and a whole lot more.
Ward 2 Councilmember and current Metro Chair Jack Evans paid a visit to DCAR and its members to discuss the latest happenings in DC. We covered a range of topics from the Democratic Primary to DC's stadiums and plans for Metro. There was so much to talk about that we can't contain it in one newsletter.

The big topic was the current financial and operational health of DC's Metro system. Jack gave us a great breakdown of current events and gave us plenty of historical context to back it up. You can learn more about his involvement by watching our Speaker Series video.
