Broome County Sheriff's Civil Division Receives Re-Accreditation

Broome County Sheriff Dave Harder and the men and women of the Broome County Sheriff's Civil Division were honored this week at the March meeting of the Broome County Legislature for the re-accreditation of their Civil Division by the New York State Sheriffs' Association for another five-year period. Executive Director Peter Kehoe relayed to Sheriff Harder and his staff the congratulations of all the New York Sheriffs for this achievement. Honored for his diligent efforts in managing the civil accreditation project was Chief Civil Deputy Ron Bill. The Broome County Sheriff's Office also holds Accreditation of its Corrections Division by the NYSSA and its Law Enforcement Division by the NYS Law Enforcement Accreditation Council. Story of St. Patrick (aka Former Onondaga County Sheriff Kevin Walsh) Chronicled in Syracuse Press

Former Onondaga County Sheriff Kevin Walsh led the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Syracuse long before he became Sheriff of Onondaga County. This year, having retired after serving for 20 years as Sheriff, he returned from his new home in California to lead the parade for the 33rd year--much to the delight of his community, especially the children. Rensselaer County Sheriff's Deputy Honored for 30 Years of Service


 
K-9 Deputy Sandy Blodgett of the Rensselaer County Sheriff's Office is honored for 30 years of dedicated service. Deputy Blodgett was sworn in as a deputy/corrections officer in 1985 and was utilized in both corrections and highway patrol. In 1988 she was appointed full time to highway patrol and in '89 became the first female K-9 Officer for the Sheriff's Office. For the past 13 years Blodgett has been one of the leading trainers for the Sheriff's Office and local law enforcement K-9 teams throughout Albany's Capital Region in police tracking and narcotic detection.


Monroe County Sheriff's Office Promotions

Monroe County Sheriff Patrick O'Flynn announces Sergeant Phil Gombatto's promotion to Chief of the Civil Bureau. Phil joined the Sheriff's Office as a part-time member of the road patrol in 1995 and became a full time Civil Bureau deputy in 1998. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2007 and was named Civil Deputy of the Year in 2011 by the New York State Sheriffs' Association. Phil takes over for retiring Chief Gary Carpino, worked at Xerox for 28 years before joining the Sheriff's Office. Gary was first hired as a part-time member of the Police Bureau's road patrol in 1999. He became a Court Security Bureau deputy in 2004 and joined the Civil Bureau in 2005. Gary was promoted to Chief of the Civil Bureau in 2007. Congratulations to Gary and Phil!


 

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Liaison Offers Assistance from the North

Ed Yoshiyama is a member of the RCMP detailed to the Canadian Consulate in New York City as a liaison officer to American law enforcement agencies in the Northeast United States. Mr. Yoshiyama met with Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple and Sheriffs' Association staff in our offices this week to introduce himself and get to know more about the Office of Sheriff in New York. He is available to assist any Sheriff who needs to make a law enforcement related contact in Canada or who has a case here that involves a Canadian connection.
