President's Message - May 2016
Spring is in full swing and it has been busy for the Council This is the time where hopefully many of our PTA Units are in a transition period as they have elected the board for the 2016-2017 year.  I am finishing up on the first year of my two-year term as the President for SDUCPTA.  And if your PTA Unit hasn't had elections, please don't forget that the SDUCPTA is here to help, shoot us an email at info@sdcouncilpta.org if you have questions or would like our assistance.     Read more......
Has your PTA Unit held elections?

CTCT-20151011_071727
If your PTA Unit held elections, please send the 2016-2017 Board Roster to info@sdcouncilpta.org.   Download the form here and send back to Council as soon as possible.  We need full contact and mailing information for the President, Treasurer, and Secretary.  If you require assistance with elections or have questions, please contact us by emailing info@sdcouncilpta.org or call
(619) 297-7821.  Let us know when you are having elections so we know when to expect rosters.  At a minimum, a President, Treasurer, and Secretary is needed to keep the PTA Unit in good standing.  Did you know that if there is a vacancy, it can be filled by the board elect once their term begins.  Send in the 2016-2017 Board Rosters in Today!

California's Student Assessments
It's that time of year - time for students in grades 3 - 8 and 11 to take the new assessments!
California's  new student-assessment program - called the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) - represents the next step in our state's ambitious education remodeling project.  Get some answers to your questions from volunteers trained by the California State PTA.

As of spring 2015, California schools replaced old tests with new assessments built to let parents and teachers know how well students are learning the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in today's world. This year will be the second year of full implementation of the new assessments. Read more....

SEND A LETTER TO SUPPORT FAMILY-ENGAGEMENT FUNDING
On May 27, the Assembly Appropriations Committee will be voting on whether to move PTA-sponsored family-engagement legislation  Assembly Bill 2680 (Bonilla) off the suspense file to the Assembly floor. This is a critical point in the legislative process - legislators need to hear from you or the bill will die in committee.
This legislation provides one-time funding to ensure schools develop strong family-engagement strategies. Thanks to all the many PTA members at the California State PTA convention as well as at home who already picked up the phone to call legislators about AB 2680.  Now it's time to send a letter!  Read more....
