Amgen Tour of California Event, Traffic, Parking and Festival Plans Announced
America's largest cycling race, the Amgen Tour of California, presented by AEG, will bring the excitement of professional cycling to Folsom on Friday, May 20. Folsom will host the men's Stage 6, an individual time trial, and the women's Stage 2, a team time trial. Folsom's approximately 12-mile course will feature some of the city's distinctive landmarks and natural amenities as riders start and finish in the Historic District, and travel over the Rainbow Bridge and Folsom Lake Crossing.
The Amgen Tour of California will be broadcast live in high definition in more than 200 countries and territories around the world. The NBC Sports Network and NBC will air the Amgen Tour of California around the world, showcasing Folsom internationally. Additionally, the race continues to be a leader in digital media by offering free, live mobile and online streaming to fans through the Amgen Tour of California Application.

Parking and Bike Valet Information   
No public parking will be permitted in the Historic District on May 20 between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Spectators are encouraged to park and walk or ride a bike to the Historic District.
Recommended parking lots include:
  • Lembi Park, 1302 Riley Street
  • City Hall/Civic Center, 50 Natoma Street
  • Kohls, 1013 Riley Street
  • Rodeo Park, 200 Stafford Street 
  • Walmart Supercenter, 1018 Riley Street
  • Negro Bar Recreation Area
ADA parking is available is available at:
  • The Historic District parking structure.  Access available only from Natoma Street and Riley Street.
  • All designated event parking areas listed above.
  • Easiest access to the event via Gold Line of the Light Rail, which drops riders off directly at the event. 
Four bike valets will be available in the Historic District, including:
  • Mike's Bikes of Folsom, 705 Gold Lake Drive 
  • Historic Folsom Light Rail Station  
  • Leidesdorff Street (west end of event)
  • Eagles Lodge, 215 Scott Street (follow signage

Spectators are also encouraged to take Regional Transit Light Rail to Historic Folsom. The Historic Folsom Light Rail Station will be in operation, but no vehicle parking will be permitted on May 20. For more information about Light Rail routes and fares, visit www.sacrt.com.

Traffic Impacts
Hosting this event is an exciting opportunity for Folsom, but it will also create traffic impacts along the race course and nearby roadways. The race course will be open during peak morning and evening commute times, but will be closed from approximately 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  
  • Rainbow Bridge and Folsom Lake Crossing closed
  • Folsom-Auburn Road limited to one southbound lane (no northbound traffic)
  • Riley Street closed between Sutter Street and Leidesdorff Street
  • Sutter Street and Leidesdorff Street closed between Folsom Boulevard and Scott Street
  • Reading, Decatur, and Wool streets closed between Figueroa and Leidesdorff streets
  • East Natoma Street closed between Folsom Lake Crossing and Blue Ravine Road
  • Green Valley Road closed between Sophia Parkway and East Natoma Street  
Expect significant delays near the race course. Emergency services will be provided with assistance from partner agencies. All Folsom schools will be accessible for drop-offs and pick-ups. However, some routes may be detoured or delayed, depending on the location of the school. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and refer to the road closure information and the route map.  A route map and detailed road closure and detour plan is available at www.folsom.ca.us/amgentourofcalifornia. Lifestyle Festival
A lifestyle festival will be held on Sutter Street between Riley and Decatur streets, and on Wool Street. Designed to provide and promote a healthy lifestyle and cycling-related experiences, the Lifestyle Festival provides a day of entertainment and fun for the whole family. The Lifestyle Festival serves as the central hub for fans to watch the race live on outdoor video screens and to interact with more than 40 exhibitors and other enthusiasts as they wait for cyclists to cross the finish line. The daylong event will feature cycling-themed products and demos, cancer and cardiovascular awareness education, family activities, food, entertainment, live music by Island of Black and White, and more.
Special VIP Experiences, created exclusively for the Amgen Tour of California, are also available. These custom-designed experiences bring fans closer to the action.
  • VIP Car Ride ($200-$500): Experience the crowd, the course, the race conditions, the energy and the excitement in an official race vehicle. Ride alongside the peloton for an entire stage of the race and get an up-close view of the riders in action in a way few have done before. Arrive at the finish ahead of the cyclists and watch them cross the finish line. Participants will receive an official Amgen Tour of California jersey. Limited availability remains for select stages!
  • Time Trial Ride in Folsom on May 20 ($500): Ride the official Time Trial Circuit on your bike just hours before the pros take the course.
  • Behind-The-Scenes Tour ($500): Get a true behind-the-scenes look at all the action. Includes broadcast compound tour, photograph taken on awards stage, and an exclusive viewing area to experience the race finish.

City of Folsom Open for Exploration on May 18
Climb aboard a fire engine, sit in the driver's seat of a garbage truck, meet cute animals and more at Folsom's annual City Works Day on Wednesday, May 18. The free, popular annual event is designed to educate the community about the City's many programs and services. City Works Day will be held at City Lions Park from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
The event will feature City trucks, buses, cars and construction equipment to look at, sit in, and even honk. City staff members will be stationed at each vehicle to educate the community about the profession and City service. Visitors can view the Fire Department rescue boat and fire engine, watch Curby the robot teach recycling, meet a Folsom Police Department K-9 and horse, and play fitness games with the City's Parks and Recreation team and more.
