At the conclusion of a contest, the time-honored practice of meeting your fierce opponent of a moment ago continues in hockey with
a display of sportsmanship after Nashville's crushing loss in Game 7 to the Sharks, 5-0. In the NHL, the post-game handshake is only done in the playoffs after the series is won by one team. San Francisco Giants pitcher Matt Cain continued to turn back his shaky start to the 2016 season with another strong outing, throwing 111 pitches over seven innings and holding the Arizona Diamondbacks to one run. The All Pro Wrestling matches in Daly City drew a packed house on Friday night to watch Jody Kristofferson (son of singer/songwriter Kris Kristofferson) retain his World Heavyweight Championship title in a wild Fatal 4-Way Match. Missed by that much! Cyclists competing in the solo categories of the famed Race Across America have just 12 days to pedal 3,000 miles from Oceanside, Calif., to Annapolis, Md. Each year a number of riders fail to make it before the cut-off time. How disappointing it must be to arrive past the deadline and see that the finish line is being dismantled--or worse yet--is already gone! Photo credit: Vic Armijo / RAAM Media.

Dare to Dream: How James Madison University Became Coed and Shocked the World
By Lou Campanelli
and Dave Newhouse
|
Former Cal basketball coach Lou Campanelli and local veteran sportswriter Dave Newhouse have co-authored a book chronicling Campanelli's accomplishments as a successful collegiate basketball coach. Campanelli started in 1972, when he arrived at a small teachers college known as Madison College in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley. The name was changed to James Madison University and Lou built the basketball program into national prominence before coming to Cal and returning the Bears program into a Pac-10 winner.
Co-author Dave Newhouse will be making the following appearances: Thursday, May 19, Barnes & Noble, Emeryville, 7 p.m., with co-author Lou Campanelli; Friday, June 10, Berkeley Breakfast Club, 7 a.m. (general author talk); Saturday, June 25, Castro Valley Library, 2 p.m. (general author talk); Saturday, July 23, Montclair Library, Oakland, 3 p.m. (general author talk).
The book can be ordered at Amazon.com and at bookstores.

Hey Coach, Lacrosse and Hoops seasons are here! If you haven't checked out Krossover yet, then you're not as prepared as you could be.
They are a service that cuts every single possession into its own video clip for you, which they then tag with player and event information - so you can see exactly what happened and who was involved. You don't have to spend time setting up your game film like you do with those other game film products out there. When you get your film back, it's ready for you to jump right in and start getting the insight you need to win more games.
Their pricing is flexible and depends on your team's individual needs.
for a quick demo and one of their specialists will get you a quote. Coaches who sign up with this link will get 3 extra scouting games added to their package for free ($150 value).
