Our El Sistema-inspired program has a new name!
"Trenton Makes - the World Takes." Enter the Capital City by crossing the Delaware River from Bucks County; take the train from New York Penn Station; admire images of the beautiful and sturdy skyline from the time of the industrial revolution until today. Trenton Makes.

For our young musicians and our teaching artists, making music means contributing to the strong fabric of the city, in the same way that construction workers, merchants, sculptors, public servants, and microbrewers do every day.
We love being a part of the city that makes, and keeps making. And as our friends from the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts noted recently, while consulting in the Trenton Public Schools' process of writing a strategic plan for the arts, Trenton Creates.

We are Trenton Music Makers, bringing together teams of young people to make music, and to understand their role as an asset to their community.  And we're grateful every day for the support of the city that makes.

Intergenerational Music for the Very Young: Another Great Year for CYO Preschool and its Grand-Buddies

Every Thursday morning, a happy band of preschoolers takes hands and walks down the street from the CYO Trenton Pre-School to the South Ward Senior Center, where they are greeted by a roomful of adults who are looking forward to seeing them. Neighborhood seniors have developed friendly and affectionate relationships with the children from the CYO Pre-School, many of whom have grandparents who live much too far away for them to see so frequently. Together they sing, act out stories through music, play rhythm instruments, and share games with scarves and beads.

Developed in 2011 collaboration with the Trenton Office on Aging, Intergenerational Music for the Very Young is nearing the end of another delightful school year, and we would like to thank our generous Music for the Very Young Sponsors for their ongoing support of this and all of the Music for the Very Young programs: the Albin Family Foundation, the Boxer Fund of Princeton Area Community Foundation, the Nordson Corporation, and the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation.

April Benefit Celebrates El Sistema in Trenton and the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation

A big round of applause and thanks to all who joined us at Palmer House on the campus of Princeton University, to hear our young musicians play and to honor the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation for its central role in building both Trenton Music Makers (formerly El Sistema - Trenton), and Music for the Very Young.

Cool Vines and their colleagues from Brockman's mixed up some refreshing drinks, and our string players, their families, and we got to hear music from Bach, Mozart and Nirvana from the amazing musicians of the Jingle Punks Hipster Orchestra. Tickets to Passage Theatre and a vacation in Tahoe were won, among other prizes, and our string players from Grant Elementary School, their parents, and a big circle of our friends, program partners and supporters got to enjoy each other's company on a warm spring evening.

Did you miss the party? Stay tuned for news about nex t year's!
