Meet Our Salutatorian
Miss Nina Tumulak

Nina Tumulak, Class of 2016 Salutatorian

Nina Tumulak is the Salutatorian for the Class of 2016.  Nina came to Garces from Tevis Junior High because she wanted the best education possible so that she could get into a good college.  Garces appealed to her because of the small classroom environment and its reputation for high academic standards.  Nina also wanted to play four years of tennis and knew Garces had a great girls tennis program.  While at Garces, Nina certainly achieved her goals - she played four years of tennis and was involved in CLC, Link Crew, CSF and Karing 4 Kids.  She will enter UCLA this fall as a business major with plans to go onto law school after graduation.  Nina says that what she loves best about Garces is that it feels like a family.  She said that everyone knows each other and "we all know how to come together at the right times."   Nina is a practicing Catholic and shared that she loves that Garces emphasizes the importance of practicing one's faith and that "you learn you have to sustain practicing your faith throughout your life."  Her favorite teacher is Mr. Holmes because "he is easy going and makes us all laugh".  Her favorite memory is playing doubles with Bianca Burkhart and beating Liberty in tennis this year.  Her advice to incoming freshman is "don't procrastinate and be involved in clubs and activities you are passionate about, but don't overload yourself."  She encourages students to enjoy high school and not to take so many difficult courses that they feel overwhelmed and stressed out. For students coming to Garces from a public school, her advice is "People are going to welcome you. You will find your group of friends".  We wish Nina all the best at UCLA where we know she will be successful.  Go Bruins!

Message from
Ms. Myka Peck

Dear Parents,

Next week our seniors participate in a wonderful rite of passage - Baccalaureate Mass and Commencement Ceremonies.  Four years really does fly by and what a wonderful four years it has been.  The Class of 2016 has accomplished so much and truly left their mark at Garces.  They have been accepted into some of the finest colleges and universities in the country and we are so proud of them.  We all look forward to hearing about their transition to college life and beyond.  Our doors are always open to them and we hope to see them as they come home to visit on college breaks. Two of them are off in service to our country and we will keep them in our prayers as they defend the country we love. This year, our school song was "Man in the Mirror" which challenged the students to look at themselves and make a change to make the world a better place.  The senior class quickly adopted the theme and you could feel the culture of the school begin to shift to a more positive, respectful, spiritual atmosphere.  All of us at Garces are grateful to the Class of 2016 and their willingness to make Garces a better place.  It showed at our school Masses, in the classroom, on the playing field, at rallies and school dances, at fine arts performances and concerts, and most importantly, out in the community.  That's the thing about Garces - our students are always measured to a higher standard.  They know it and they rise to the challenge.  Our students are wonderful ambassadors for our school and often they are the very best volunteers at local charity events.  And the Class of 2016 was no exception.  So next week will be bittersweet for all of us at Garces.  Happy to see our seniors move on to fulfill God's plan for them, but a little sad to see them leave as they have been a wonderful class to have on our campus.  We wish them all the best that life has to offer!

I hope to see many of you at Baccalaureate Mass and Graduation.  May God bless the Class of 2016.  May God continue to bless Garces with students and families like yours.

May there always be a Garces.

Myka Peck
Principal
