The Louisiana Aging Brain Study (aka the LABrains Project), led by Dr. Jeffrey Keller, director of the Institute for Dementia Research and Prevention at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center, has enrolled over 2000 participants representing 37 parishes, leading to rapid growth in new research opportunities. CCTS June Forum Rescheduled for May 25th, Will Present Tips for Meeting NIH Rigor and Transparency (R2T) Requirements
The June Forum, which will feature a panel discussion with select NIH study section reviewers, has been moved up a week to ensure attendees will have time to implement R2T tips into their NIH grant applications with a June deadline.

Center for Genomic Medicine Announces New 
Pilot Funding RFA 
The goal of the new CGM RFA is to stimulate UAB-HudsonAlpha collaborative pilot projects that will show leadership in integrating genetics and genomics into medicine. Award amount is $100,000 for up to two years. Applications due May 23, 2016.

BD2K Mentored Career Development Award in Biomedical Big Data Science for Clinicians and Doctorally Prepared (K01)
This NIH FOA aims to support additional training of scientists who will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to be independent researchers as well as to work in a team environment to develop new Big Data technologies, methods, and tools applicable to basic and clinical research.

Computational Genomics
This advanced immersion course offered by the Heflin Center for Genomic Sciences will provide attendees with experience in analyzing genomic data using a variety of Linux-based tools. Hands-on exercises will include searching the whole genome for causal variants, transcriptome for gene expression, and epigenetics for calling peaks in ChIP/ATAC-Seq.
