Registration
We have developed a schedule of spring programs for people of all ages to enjoy what our parks have to offer while enjoying the benefits of being outdoors. Most programs are FREE, unless otherwise noted and require advance registration to ensure we meet required minimums. Register early to avoid program cancellation!

3 EASY WAYS TO REGISTER FOR OUR PROGRAMS:
  • On-Line: Visit clarkcountyparks.org and select the "Program Registration" button.
  • By Phone: Call 937-882-6000, Monday - Friday, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
  • In Person: Visit our Park Headquarters, located at the Davidson Interpretive Center,  5638 Lower Valley Pike, Springfield, OH 45502.
The Clark County Park District also offers scheduled programs for school groups, senior centers and other organizations.  Call the Park Headquarters at 937-882-6000 for more information.

Wetland Warriors - Ages 7-12

This year-round program encourages children to get outside and make new discoveries while learning about nature through hands-on activities outdoors. Please dress in weather-appropriate gear and footwear. Pre-registration is required and is limited to 15 participants.Stream Discovery:  

 

Tuesday, June 14, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.George Rogers Clark Park (meet at the lake)

Join us in the search for small insects, snails, fish fry (baby fish) and other life in the streams. Wear clothes that can get wet and closed-toe shoes for walking in the stream.

 

Nature's Engineers: Thursday, June 16, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Estel Wenrick Wetlands

Discover the world of the American Beaver and other engineers that call the wetland home. Take a close look at the resident Beaver dam and other structures built by wildlife. Be sure to wear a long-sleeved shirt, long pants, old shoes and a hat. Please bring bug repellant.

 

Butterfly Hunt: Tuesday, July 19, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., Leadingham Prairie

Over 40 species of butterflies have been identified at the Leadingham Prairie. Butterflies are beneficial to our ecosystems as they pollinate many of our native plant species. Wear a long sleeved shirt, long pants, a hat, and old shoes.

 

Habitat Trek: Thursday, July 21, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., Leadingham Prairie

Search for the habitats of different species such as the Great Blue Heron, the Big Brown Bat, the Red-winged Blackbird and the Gray Treefrog. See how many YOU can find on this habitat scavenger hunt. Be sure to wear a long sleeved shirt, long pants, a hat, and old shoes.

HISTORICAL PROGRAMS

Battle of Peckuwe, Monday, August 8, 12:00 p.m.
George Rogers Clark Park, Monument on the hill by the Hertzler House


Join us as we commemorate the anniversary of the Battle of Peckuwe. This battle took place at this site on August 8, 1780 and was fought between the troops of George Rogers Clark and the British-allied Shawnee Indians. During this ceremony, we will remember the lives lost in that battle. The First Mad River Light Artillery will assist in this program.

NATURE SERIES


Butterfly Count, Every Wednesday Morning, 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., Leadingham Prairie
Join us on our butterfly count each week from June - August in the prairie. We will see everything from the tiny Eastern Tailed Blue, to the Silver-Spotted Skipper and the infamous Monarch. Please dress for the hot weather, but wear long sleeves, long pants, a hat and sturdy shoes. Waders are recommended. A water bottle is a must! Children (ages 7+) are invited and encouraged to attend. Thursday Morning Hike, Every Thursday Morning, 9:00 a.m., George Rogers Clark Park
Join Park District Volunteers each Thursday morning to enjoy a walk through the woods at George Rogers Clark Park. This group has been exploring the park weekly for over 10 years! Meet at the parking lot below the dam.

Stargaze - Davidson Interpretive Center
Enjoy the night sky like never before with our 14 inch telescope that even allows you to see the rings of Saturn. Bring something to sit on and dress for the weather. Pre-registration is required and is limited to 40 participants.

  • July 8-15 (clearest night), 10:30 p.m. - 12:30 a.m. Once we know the best viewing day, we will contact registrants and also post on our Facebook page 48 hours in advance.

Spring into Summer Hike: Friday, June 10, 9:00 - 10:30 a.m., Estel Wenrick Wetlands
Enjoy the sights and sounds as we search for birds. The wetlands are the home of many
species of songbirds. Please bring binoculars, bug repellant, sunscreen, and a water bottle.
Fairy & Gnome Festival: Saturday, June 18, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., Ages 5-12, George Rogers Clark Park (meet at the Demint Shelter) Design a nature home for a fairy, or a gnome! Join us to build tiny houses for those tiny, mythical creatures of the forest. The Park District will supply some "building" materials. Bring your imagination and any natural items you would like to include with your home.

Winged Wonders Hike: Fri., July 29, 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m., Leadingham Prairie, corner of Union & Spangler Rds., Medway
Search for Ohio's butterflies, from the Pearl Crescent to the Monarch, with the Clark County Audubon Society. Bring binoculars if you have them! Please wear a long-sleeved shirt, long pants, old shoes, hat and a bottle of water. Waders are recommended!  

Micro Dragon Hunt: Friday, August 5, 11:00 am. - 12:30 p.m., Leadingham Prairie, corner of Union & Spangler Roads, Medway
Amber Burgett, Assistant Professor of Biology with Wittenberg University, will lead a hike to learn about Ohio's dragons - the dragonflies. Learn about the lifecycle of the dragonfly by catching adults in nets and scooping up larvae in the water. Wear a hat, sunscreen and bring water. Waders are recommended. (Be prepared to get a bit wet!)

Prairie Prowl: Friday, August 19, 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., Leadingham Prairie, corner of Union & Spangler Roads, Medway
Join Partners for Fish and Wildlife biologist, Donnie Knight, and discover the sights and sounds of the prairie. Things to bring: binoculars, bug repellant, sunscreen, and a water bottle. Wear a long sleeved shirt, long pants and old shoes.  Waders are recommended.

Hertzler House Tours: Sundays, June 5 - August 28, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m., Hertzler House, George Rogers Clark Park - $5/Adults & $1/Students
Tour the historic Daniel Hertzler House Museum and get a hint of what life was like in the 1800's. Donations are appreciated to help the Park District take care of this historic gem.

Living History Day Camp: June 20, 22, 24, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., Hertzler House, George Rogers Clark Park - $25/child, Limit 10 campers per day

Ole' Fashioned 4th: Monday, July 4, 2:00 p.m., George Rogers Clark Park, Meet at the parking lot below the dam
Celebrate the 4th of July with fun, family activities! Three-legged races, sack races, tug-o-war, egg toss, and seed spitting are just some of the games that are fun for the whole family. Sponsored by the Friends of the Clark County Park District.

Historic Homes Bus Tour: Saturday, August 20, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Meet at the Walmart parking lot, Bechtle Avenue, $60.00/person
This chartered bus tour includes tours of the 1812 Crabill House, the 1839 Pennsylvania House, the 1850's Gammon House, the 1854 Hertzler House and the 1908 Westcott House.  Enjoy a box lunch from "Simply Delicious" at the Davidson Interpretive Center.
