Thank You For Supporting Young Playwrights For Change

ASC is proud to be a regional host for TYA/USA and  The American Alliance for Theatre and Education's  Young Playwrights For Change  competition. On May 7th, we held our 2016  Celebration of Playwrights at the Vittum Theater. Our middle school playwrights had the amazing opportunity to see their original works come off the paper and onto the mainstage, with the help of volunteer directors and actors from the ASC and Chicago theatre community.

From ASC Producing Artistic Director Tom Arvetis:

I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to our four regional finalists to this year's Young Playwrights for Change competition. I'm amazed at the depth of feeling and intellect expressed by these four middle school scribes. I want to also thank the four teams of actors and directors who gave freely of their time and energy to make this year's event a success. Well done!

And it couldn't be done without the generous support of all the artists who gave their time and talent over the weekend. We are immensely grateful! A special thanks to Paul Pasulka, who stepped in as a director and also provided refreshments at all the workshops. And we'd never forget--thank you to all participant families, friends, and teachers who encourage our young people to keep writing!

SEE A HERO. BE A HERO.

Bringing original shows to the stage takes  considerable effort. We develop our new plays in conversation with community to ensure that they are immediately relevant to the lives of young Chicagoans. Our play making process was recognized by the National Theatre of Scotland, and they have commissioned us to create a new work and bring it to Scotland in October! To help fund our participation, we have just embarked on a matching grant campaign with a goal of raising $10,000.

If, by June 30, we can raise $10,000, that amount will be matched by our Auxiliary Board! No contribution is too small. We'll need every penny to reach our goal! Give online at:  adventurestage.org/give.

Your creative and financial support will help us continue to tell heroic stories, impact our community here in Chicago and engage internationally. Thank you.
