Hello,

Throughout the year, our volunteers help Calgary's Prostate Cancer Centre with a number of initiatives. From greeting men and their families at the information desk, to sharing a story with a calming effect for a biopsy patient to encouraging men to learn about prostate cancer detection on the MAN VAN

Our volunteers commit their time and talent to benefit the Prostate Cancer Centre and its clients. Many of our volunteers are “Prostate Cancer Graduates”, meaning they have experienced prostate cancer first-hand, and therefore know of what they speak. Others haven't experienced prostate cancer, but have a passion for the Centre. All of our volunteers are here because they care about men in our community and want to help us achieve our goals.

Our team of over 70 dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers always share smiles and provide comfort to our clients. A huge thank you to our team both in house at the PCC or in the community. You make a difference in the lives of men and their families and friends.

One of our volunteers, Ross is celebrating his 5 year anniversary of being a volunteer at the PCC this year. He shares his prostate cancer journey and why he volunteers at the Prostate Cancer Centre.

The warmth of human interaction by a volunteer has a lasting impact on men and their families that visit the PCC and MAN VAN. In 2015, our volunteers volunteered 3,500 hours to help the PCC and the men it serves.

Thank you for all that you do!

On March 19, 2016 the Prostate Cancer Centre lost a great supporter, board member and friend. Art Davis was a commitment man who was deeply involved with the creation, governance and support of our Centre since its inception in 1999. He was an avid supporter of all of our work and striving to  be on the leading edge of patient treatment and services. Art was known for his encouraging ways and when able never missed a board meeting, volunteer event or chance to tell us we were doing a great job.

Thanks Art for all your talent, time and treasure - you will be dearly missed.

Memorial gifts are being accepted in Arts name.
Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast
This year’s theme of National Volunteer Week was “Volunteers are the Roots of our Communities.” During the week, we wanted to celebrate, recognize and thank over 70 volunteers for the time they have donated at the Prostate Cancer Centre and on the MAN VAN over the last year.

FortisAlberta Man Up Month
FortisAlberta held their second annual “Man Up Month” during the month of February. It was held to encourage their employees to get checked regularly for prostate cancer and other modifiable risks like high blood pressure. Despite tough economic times, their employees dug deep into they pockets to raise over $15,000. This money is being used by FortisAlberta to host MAN VAN clinics, so their employees and the community can be proactive with their health.
Women For Men's Health
Spin-A-thon
A group of professional women have joined forces to create a fearsome fundraising group called Women for Men's Health. The team is headed up by Dr. Shelley Spaner, a local Radiologist who also sits on our board of directors.

The women held their first event, a spin-a-thon, on March 5th at YYC Cycle in Marda Loop and raised over $65,000 for men's health.

Plans are well on the way for a men's fashion event in early November. Stay tuned!
