Parts Make a PCC Go
A Westinghouse drum controller makes TTC 4603 go.

In addition to the 99 fingers on the accelerator, there are six small control contacts around the drum which are activated by the bars on the drum.  If you look closely, you will see that a screw is sticking out from the drum without a bar behind it.  Car shop crew borrowed the bar to replace one under TTC 4602 while TTC 4603 is awaiting wheel repair.   Click here for more information about the history and development of the President's Conference Committee (PCC) streetcar.  Click here to see a video of a PCC drum in operation.

Remembering Prior Cavalcades

The Trolley Museum tradition of an annual spring feature event dates back over 40 years and has been called by names such as "Parade of Trolleys", "Trolley Car Spectacular", and   "Spring Open House".   DCTS 766 waits at the former visitor center in this view from April, 1986 , when radio station WCLY (formerly WPGC) sponsored an April open house. Radio personality John Dowling was guest motorman on DCTS 766 that day. The Museum welcomed over 2,000 passengers and traffic was backed up to the top of the hill at Layhill Rd. waiting to enter the museum parking lot.  Note the "95" route number representing the station ID for WCLY 95 FM.
