The Selwood Outdoor Expo was a huge success! For those of you who could not make it...this event was amazing!

Over 100 new visitors got to enjoy a day on the farm. A few of the exciting activities included:

*Opportunity to shoot on our Helice course

*Saw some amazing retrieval work

*Practiced turkey calling

*Had a blast playing a game of Texas Hog Toss

*Ate plenty of delicious catfish from Whiskers Catfish

*Great door prizes were a huge hit

*And best of all was our fantastic guest speaker, Chuck McAlister. We enjoyed listening to Chuck tell stories about growing up and bird hunting behind his granddad in the fields of South Carolina.

Have you met....?

We are so excited for the proud parents, Sissy(5) and Mason(7)! They were blessed with 7 precious and healthy puppies on Thursday, May 5 th . Both Sissy and Mason are some of our best bird dogs. Mason will pick up as many as 3 quail at a time. Sissy is also a great birddog as well as a sweet and attentive momma! Both mom and dad love nothing more than hunting or being in the water! We are so thankful for these gentle and loving German Shorthaired Pointers and their adorable pups!

As we enter the summer months Zach, Gino and the boys are busy doing field prep work for next year's bird season. The farm had its annual prescribed burn and has really begun to green up nicely.
Our seasonal plantings for wildlife have started. If you are interested in a hunting membership and would be interested in a farm tour please give our office a ring to schedule your tour.

Shooters tip of the month...

Barrel speed/ muzzle speed:

I few weeks ago I had a group session with six kids. I noticed that each of them, especially the boy in the group, when calling PULL their muzzle, was off to the races. I kept saying slow down and get in sync with the bird.
I believe that each of us can learn something from what I was teaching these kids.
The initial move after calling pull needs to be slow, deliberate smooth and to the break point.
After calling this to their attention we began to slow down the initial move to the break point, which does two things for the shooter:
1) It gets you in sync with the bird; it gives the bird the appearance of slowing down
2) Try a few shots slowing down your move and see if this helps your score.
