Celebrating all Volunteers!
Ma yor Harry LaRosiliere proclaimed April 10 - 16 National Volunteer Week in the City of Plano during a recent City Council Meeting.

“I wish to honor and to thank the dedicated citizens of the City of Plano who give so freely of their valuable time, energy and abilities. I urge my fellow citizens to volunteer in their respective communities. By volunteering and recognizing those who serve, we replace disconnection with understanding and compassion.”

CAPP Celebrates 10-Year Anniversary
The Citizens Assisting Plano Police (CAPP) program w as formed in March 2006. It is a committee within Plano Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association (PCPAAA).

CAPP members are required to go through six months of training and commit to additional responsibility and levels of involvement. They assist the police department in a wide range of duties including Patrol (Handicap Parking Citations, Open Garage Door Patrol, Motorist Assists), manning the SkyWatch towers, Park Patrols, foot patrols at special events and more.

David Snellings joined CAPP because it allowed him to contribute to a community that has been "very good" to his family and to assist the Plano Police Department for which he has utmost respect for the officers who put themselves in harm’s way to protect citizens.

Celebrating a Lifetime of Service

The mother and daughter team, Pooch and Grady Kingrey, have been Super Sorters Extraordinaire for more than 31 years. As attendees of the first and second Friends of the Library Book Sale, they couldn’t wait for it to come around again. So in 1985, they arrived early to the third annual sale and asked if they could help set up. That was the beginning of 31 years of dedicated volunteering service to the Plano Public Library System and the City of Plano.

Bettye Phillips Chosen Plano Fire-Rescue's Volunteer of the Year
Congratulations to devoted Plano Fire Rescue Association (PFRA) member Bettye Phillips  who was presented with Plano Fire-Rescue’s 2015 Volunteer of the Year award.

Bettye put in 80 hours of service with Plano Fire-Rescue in 2015, and she currently has surpassed well over 1,700 volunteer hours since she joined PFRA. We won’t mention how many additional hours she has volunteered with the Police Alumni, but without a doubt, Bettye is a true asset to the City of Plano and its public safety organizations!
