THE MARKET IS NOW AT A NEW LOCATION WITH A NEW NAME FOR 2016!
 
We are happy to announce that this year's market will be located at  4521 Kenilworth Avenue, Bladensburg for the 2016 season! This is in the busy Three Brothers Plaza shopping center.

We will open on  June 4 and be open 11 - 3 on Saturdays until September 24You'll meet local farmers, support local food businesses, get your fresh, local produce and tasty foods, hear live music, and enjoy fun activities for kids. We also plan to have occasional cooking demonstrations.

For the grand opening we'll be hosting a Community Health Walk to the mercado. This walk will r aise awareness about healthy living and healthy eating in our community and the funds will be used to do MORE KIDS ART projects at the Bladensburg farm.

  • Seeds of Change Grant: Thank you to all who voted and supported ECO! Unfortunately we did not make it to the top 50. We will continue to seek funding from these unique opportunities. We are grateful for your current and future support to advance our mission to grow great food, farms and farmers!
  • DC Food Recovery Week of Action May 14th - 20th: The DC Food Recovery Working Group has organized a week of events around food recovery in the District. Some events include the Worm-Powered Composting at Home Workshop (Saturday, May 14th, 10am-1pm) and the Path to Zero Waste: Organic Waste Summit (Wednesday, May 18th, 1-5:30pm).   • Crossroads Farmers Market 10th Season Kickoff Party!: The Crossroads Farmers Market is celebrating 10 YEARS of bringing fresh, local, and affordable produce to the Takoma/Langley Crossroads. Join the celebration Saturday, May 15th. This free, fun, family-friendly event will feature food, music and a silent auction. Learn more about this event on the Facebook Event Page.
  • Bike to Work Day Friday, May 20th: Celebrate bicycling as a clean, fun, healthy way to get to work! ECO, Community Forklift, Anacostia Watershed Society and the Town of Edmonston are partnering to host the Port Towns- Edmonston Pit Stop located at the NE Branch Train and Decatur Street. Get a free t-shirt, refreshments and raffle entry at any of the pit stops on your way to work. Register for Bike to Work Day HERE.
  • ECO Returns to Crossroads Farmers Market: We're  now at a third market this year. ECO is returning to the  Crossroads Farmers Market  for the 2016 season after four years. The market is on  Wednesdays 11-3pm starting June 1st Location: Anne St. (between University Blvd. & Hammond Ave., across from the Rite Aid) Takoma Park, MD 20912

Grand Opening!: Saturday June 4th 11am-3pm

Location:  4521 Kenilworth Avenue, Bladensburg

Join us at the Port Towns Farmers Mercado! You'll meet local farmers, support local food businesses, get your fresh, local produce and tasty foods, hear live music, and enjoy fun activities for kids. We also plan to have occasional cooking demonstrations.

Once again, market vendors will take WIC and Farmers Market Fruit and Vegetable Checks and customers can use SNAP/EBT to buy SNAP-eligible foods.

Special Thank You: W e thank Mario Repole of Three Brothers Italian Restaurant for allowing us to locate there and provide better fresh food access to the residents of the Port Towns and Prince George's County!

New this year: Double Dollars
We will be offering Maryland Market Money which offers 'double dollars' for low income customers. These vouchers  effectively double their spending at the market by matching up to $5 in spending each week. 

We are currently fundraising for the double dollar program so if you or your group would like to contribute to meet the needs of financially challenged residents to get more fresh produce, please contact Amanda at [email protected].

Thursdays at the All Souls Unitarian Church from 4-7pm. Location:  2835 16th St NW, Washington, DC 20009

The season has started and ends September 15 2016. Shares are still available and those who join now will be offered a pro-rated price. 

ECO City Farms offers weekly farm shares (also called CSAs) of locally grown produce through the farm share program. Members sign up and pay for the entire season ahead of time, then pick up their share of produce each week at designated locations.

Each week is a different mix of produce, depending on what is in season. Taste the difference that freshly picked, chemical free, locally grown produce can make. Support your local urban farm and support your health with an ECO farm share!

LARGE SHARE - ECO Farm Share

Cost: $22/week with purchase of 22 week season = $486
Contains: Produce exclusively from ECO which is Certified Naturally Grown.
Prince George's County residents receive a 10% discount! (cost is $437=$19.88/week)

SMALL SHARE - Eat Local Farm Share
4 items/ week
Cost: $13.50/week with purchase of 22 week season = $297
Contains: Produce from ECO and other area sustainable farmers*.
Prince George's County residents receive a 10% discount! (cost is $267=$12.15/week)

EGG SHARE ADD ON
Supplement your share with a dozen eggs every two weeks. Cost: $55 ($5 week)

Community Herbal Wellness - Last Class!


We invite you to join one of our classes to learn more about the ancient and contemporary art and ­science of herbalism. 

Pre-registration is required. Please contact [email protected] or 443-447-0313 to register or with any questions.

Cost:  Each class cost $25 (includes $5 for materials, healthy drinks and snacks). Registration is non-refundable but is transferable. Please note: No one will be turned away for lack of funds. We offer a sliding fee scale discount, if needed.

During this workshop we will introduce you to basic gardening techniques and the tools to create and care for your herbal garden. 

Topics include: what herbs to use, how to grow healthy productive plants, natural techniques for watering and fertilizing; when to harvest and how to preserve optimal flavor. Additionally, we will discuss key equipment and supplies, and basic medicinal uses. 

All students will be provided with select herb seed packets and two starter herbs/seedlings!

Volunteer Days

Call for volunteers! Grab your shovels and join us at the Edmonston Farm Saturday, May 21st 9am-12pm. ECO needs your help to dig trenches for our water mitigation project. Skip the gym and get your workout in by working on the farm* . To register, contact Kayla at [email protected]

*We do not recommend young children attend volunteer days. Children 16 and younger must have a parent/guardian present.

Open volunteer hours have been in full effect! ECO City Farms serves the community and without the incredible help of volunteers like you, we could not exist. Volunteer days are Saturdays from 9am to 12pm . 1st and 3rd at the Edmonston Farm and 2nd and 4th at the Bladensburg Farm.

We offer free public tours at 12:15pm after volunteer day. Please contact Kayla ([email protected]) to register to join!

Riverdale Park Farmers Market
Thursdays 3-7pm
ECO has a regular farm stand at the year-round  Riverdale Park Farmers Market . The market has moved outdoors for the spring season.  Enjoy the live music and conversation. Come visit our stand and chat with farmer Deborah about what's in season and share your yummy recipes. 

The Riverdale Park Farmers Market is  located in the MARC train station parking lot (4650 Queensbury Road Riverdale Park, MD 20737).
