ROWING FOR GOLD IN MUSKINGUM COUNTY
Muskingum County is now home to a sport very new to our area and to a competition venue that is drawing rave reviews: Rowing at Dillon State Park. Yes, rowing, like you see in the Olympics where teams in long, low boats pull on oars and fly across the water. Why is this important? Because it brings thousands of visitors and their economic impact to our area (with the potential for even more) and it adds another sport to our community's extensive list of outdoor activities. The Midwest Scholastic Rowing Championships will be held this weekend, on Saturday, May 14 and Sunday May 15 at Dillon State Park, followed by the National Championships on Friday, May 27 and Saturday, May 28. These championship regattas feature the fastest crews in scholastic rowing competing on a newly developed course with a spectacular spectator venue and the ability to see the entire race course, a feature rarely witnessed in scholastic rowing. Spectators are very welcome and encouraged to come watch the competitions. The Midwest Scholastic Rowing Association is also offering a wonderful opportunity for you to support "Rowing for Gold" at Dillon. Various sponsorship opportunities are available to individuals, businesses, and organizations. To request a sponsor packet with details, contact Kelly Ashby at [email protected].

FREE SAFETY INSPECTIONS
OSHA's On-site Consultation Program offers free and confidential safety and occupational health advice to small and medium-sized businesses in all states across the country, with priority given to high-hazard worksites. On-site Consultation services are separate from enforcement and do not result in penalties or citations. Consultants from state agencies or universities work with employers to identify workplace hazards, provide advice on compliance with OSHA standards, and assist in establishing injury and illness prevention programs. In Ohio, this service is provided through the Bureau of Workers' Compensation. For more information visit the Ohio BWC website.

DIGITAL MARKETING 101
"Digital marketing" is a relatively new term that has rapidly come into prominence over the last decade, and as Ron Burgundy might say... "It's kind of a big deal." To provide the simplest definition, digital marketing is an umbrella term for the marketing of products or services using digital technologies. Online marketing is by far the most important segment of digital marketing. As traditional channels become less valuable, online marketing continues to take up bigger and bigger segments of companies' marketing budgets, with millions of businesses marketing exclusively via the Internet. Consider this post an introduction to digital marketing-Digital Marketing 101, if you will-which breaks down the most common channels and gives you a comprehensive framework for understanding this ever-evolving industry. There's nothing casual about it -- you usually need to be subscribed to an email list to find great examples of emails. Read on to discover some great emails and get the lowdown on what makes them great -- or just keep on scrolling to get a general feel for each. Read more from Hubspot.com.

ChamberChamber Updates & Services
YOU AN EXPERT?
Trying to get the word about your expertise in your field? Have some special knowledge you would be willing to share with other area business people? Then submit a column on a business topic to the Chamber Experts area of our website. This section provides members with a way to establish their expertise in their professional field and in doing so promote their business. FOOD TRUCK RALLY
The Zanesville Jaycees are holding their first Food Truck Rally this weekend at Zane's Landing Park in Zanesville. You can find all the details at the Jaycees website. The Chamber and the Jaycees have a unique and close partnership - the local Jaycees organization was founded in 1920 as the "Junior Chamber" (or J.C. which evolved into the term Jaycees) to serve as a complement to our Chamber of Commerce.

EMAIL MARKETING BLAST SERVICE
You can easily and cheaply reach hundreds of local business people by using the email marketing service offered exclusively to chamber members. Your 100 word message can be emailed to contacts at other chamber members - roughly 1,100 local business people - for just $50. For more details visit www.zmchamber.com/email-blast.html.

SPECIAL MEMBER LOGO PROVIDED
Use our chamber member logo on your web pages, emails, and printed materials to highlight your involvement in the chamber. Why? Because research shows that when customers know you are a chamber member they are more likely to do business with you. A national study (The Real Value of Joining a Local Chamber of Commerce, ACCE, 2007*) reveals that membership in a local chamber of commerce can significantly boost a company's image among consumers, as well as among other businesses.

For example:
  • When consumers know that a business is a member of the local chamber they are 63% more likely to patronize the business in the future and 44% more likely to think favorably of the business.
  • Seven out of ten consumers (70%) believe that being actively involved in the chamber demonstrates that it uses good business practices.
The member logo can be found here: www.zmchamber.com/member-logo.html.
