ICBSD Shares Message at 7 County Clearing House Meeting
May 3rd, Mound City, SD - Greg D. McCurry, ICBSD President & CEO, was invited to speak at the annual 7 County Clearing House meeting at Bernie's Bar & Beefstro.
Fifty attendees from area banks were in attendance for a prime rib dinner, networking, and to hear from representatives from the NSU Banking Program and the ICBSD.
Greg D. McCurry shared remarks about the ICBSD recent trip to Washington D.C. and information about recent legislative successes as a result of the ICBA and ICBSD joint lobbying efforts.
Greg also shared a message of community banks' need to preserve a strong independent voice and ensure it is heard on Main Street, the Capitol in Pierre and in Washington, D.C.
McCurry stated, "We cannot allow our voice to be silenced by those with greater wealth and power, those who wish to silence the unique needs and demands of local institutions. We can't allow
ourselves to be co-opted and quieted by those very same entities that wish to exploit the reputation that community banks have built. We owe it to
ourselves, to our industry, and to our local communities to ensure our voices are heard."
"At the ICBSD we have only one mission: community banks. We are not divided in our attention or our loyalties. We remain committed to community banks and only community banks."
McCurry closed by sharing with the group that "You are a part of a powerful group of 52,000 locations nationwide. Community banks employ 700,000 Americans, hold more than $2.9 trillion in deposits and $2.4 trillion in loans to consumers, small businesses and the agricultural community."
"I want to remind you of how important you are to South Dakota. Community banks are exceptional small business lenders. While community banks comprise just 20 percent of the banking industry's assets, they provide 55 percent of the industry's small-business loans. The viability of community banks is directly linked to the success of small business."

Holding Your Data Ransom
What is Ransomware?
It's a day that starts just like every other day. You walk into the office, grab some coffee, and power up your computer. Only instead of being able to access your data, you see an image demanding you to pay $10,000 in the next 48 hours for the return of your data, or the price goes up. Today, it seems, won't be just like every other day; you've been victimized by ransomware.
Ransomware is one of the fastest growing methods of attack currently being deployed by hackers. From large organizations, like banks and hospitals, to medium sized retailers, all the way down to individual devices, such as personal cell phones, everyone is at risk.
Ransomware is a type of malware that will encrypt files and information on your organization's network, rendering your information (including customer records) inaccessible and denying access to other networked devices. Ransomware gains control of your organization's network through phishing emails, unpatched software, unsupported servers, and other vulnerabilities. Once ransomware has essentially rendered your network and information unusable, the attacker will demand payment in exchange for the encryption key and the promise of being able to decrypt your data once the organization has paid the ransom.

- How bank balance sheets have evolved over the current rate cycle
- How to compete for long-term fixed rate loans
- How to substantially reduce the cost of wholesale funding
- How to minimize price volatility and still book attractive yields in the investment portfolio
The webinar will last approximately 1 hour.

Self-Service for the Win
As the industry continues to evolve, technology has beco
me a crucial element of the banking experience. With branch traffic declining, and younger demographics demanding more out of their financial services, many Financial Institutions (FIs) are investing in Branch Transformation Solutions. However, it can be difficult to know exactly what will work for you. FIs are facing more options than ever before, and when implementing new technology, want to maximize on the investments. Additionally, you must ensure that Branch Transformation initiatives will be well-received by customers. Ultimately, the branch should be designed to serve consumers in the way
they
want to be served, and having the right strategy in place helps achieve this. One strategy gaining traction in today's ever-changing banking environment is the self-service model.
