The M/Y Tatoosh brings $1M in economic impacttatoosh

When a large yacht visits,
it can potentially have a significant, positive economic impact on the local and regional economy. The M/Y Tatoosh (flagged in Cayman Islands) is a 302' privately owned yacht currently moored at Port St. Pete. It has visited the Port four times over the past several years making this its 5th visit.

While in the Caribbean in March, the Tatoosh contacted Port St. Pete to ask if the Port could accommodate the yacht for a visit. The Tatoosh is here  for vessel dockside maintenance, which includes work ranging from  electronics to safety certification; repairs/upgrades including welding services, interior fiberglass and painting, cabinetry work, and small boats repairs; exterior upgrades including new deck lighting; and routine services such as laundry, carpet cleaning, sewage pump-out and refueling, to name just a few.  Additionally, the Tatoosh carries a helicopter, which was flown ashore to Albert Whitted Airport for the in-port period.

The Tatoosh's Captain estimates they are spending about $1 million on routine maintenance and repair. He notes that not all vendors are from the local area, a few came from South Florida.  Interestingly, many of the crew are from Europe and some of them use this in-port time to visit home, utilizing the area's international airports to fly home.  The Tatoosh plans to be in St. Petersburg for about 50 days The Captain reports being very happy with the  Port  and the various yacht vendors and services available in our area - and also says the crew really enjoys St. Petersburg!
