The Douglas is driving momentum at the corner of Douglas and Market in Downtown Wichita. This project was formerly known as Exchange Place, and will revitalize two empty buildings (the pink marbled Exchange Building and the white brick Bitting Building). The project includes 240 residential units on Douglas Avenue, along with commercial space on the ground floor. In addition, the project will incorporate a new 273-space parking garage with ground floor retail, residential and commercial space in the adjacent non-developed Douglas Avenue frontage. The new infill development will replace the former Lerner and Michigan buildings as well as the surface parking lot adjacent to the Kress Building. This project will be catalytic to adjacent properties and further the vision outlined in Project Downtown: The Master Plan for Wichita

Water Conservation Rebate Program Maintains Participation

City Council authorized $100,000 in February 2016 to continue to encourage Wichitans to incorporate high-efficiency,
water-saving devices and appliances into their homes. As of May 13, 2016 only $15,012 remains for this program. Approximately 40 applications are being received each week and staff anticipates that funding will be exhausted within the
next 30 days. Staff will work with the Communications Team
to ensure that the public is aware that program funds will soon run out.

The results of a recently published Water Research Foundation study indicate that the 23 utilities in the sample showed a decline of 22% in average annual indoor household water use since the last such study was published in 1999. The study reports "the reductions in household water use are largely due to more efficient fixtures and appliances and are not the result of either occupancy or behavior".

New Youth Baseball Field at Historic McAdams Park

City of Wichita officials have scheduled a ribbon-cutting ceremony for 10 a.m. on Thursday to celebrate a new artificial turf baseball field in historic McAdam's Park,1329 E. 16th St. The baseball field is the city's first public field to have artificial turf, which will reduce weather delays, improve scheduling and provide a quality field of play. It has dual markings so that it can also be used for girls' softball games.
"This new field will offer more youth a chance to play baseball and learn valuable life skills," said Council Member Lavonta Williams, whose north-side District I includes McAdams. The field, funded with $1.4 million from the capital improvement budget, represents the first phase of a three-year park improvement project. Designed and constructed by Multicon, Inc., the field offers a nostalgic motif to reflect an earlier era and pay homage to the league's namesake, baseball legend Jackie Robinson who wore number 42.

Eagle sports columnist Bob Lutz founded League 42, with the goal of giving more local youth a chance to play baseball. Since its inception in 2013, League 42 has grown to include 400 players. Generous donors and volunteers help provide uniforms, equipment, coaching and mentoring for a capped fee of $30 a family.  League 42 also provides life skills for players. Its volunteers have been working with Park &

Recreation Department officials to repair, repaint and refurbish the existing fields.
Wichita Park & Recreation supports eight recreation centers, nine swimming pools, 55 athletic fields, five golf courses, six interactive fountains, numerous adult and youth-based activities and athletics programs and 2,407 acres of rights-of-way.
