CONCRETE PLACEMENT UPDATE
On May 19 the Austin City Council extended through August 31 the current, temporary rules for concrete placement at night and early mornings in downtown.  A coalition of industry partners has been actively engaged with City Council and staff on this issue to make sure the final rules do not unfairly restrict contractors from pouring concrete downtown.  These stakeholders are very close to reaching an agreement amenable to all concerned and a final agreement is expected by the end of this summer.

For more information, contact Phil Thoden.
NEW 10/30 HOUR SAFETY REQUIREMENT at AISD, DISTRICT WILL PAY FOR TRAINING

As a result of further discussions with contractors,  the   Austin  Independent School District (AISD) has made the  following changes  to the OSHA 10/30 requirement implemented March 1 for construction projects already under contract at that time:
  • OSHA 30 is required for all General Contractor superintendents. If there are superintendents that are not already OSHA 30 certified, AISD will pay for certification and the hours required to obtain certification. Documentation of costs is required.
  • OSHA 10 is encouraged for all workers, but is not required. If there are workers that are not already OSHA 10 certified, AISD will pay for certification but the hours required to obtain certification would be at the employer's expense. Documentation of costs is required.
  • For construction projects bid after March 1, OSHA 30 is required for all superintendents and OSHA 10 is required for all workers as a part of project construction cost.
For more information, contact the AISD Construction Management Department.  You can also contact Phil Thoden with the Austin AGC.

GOLF at BARTON CREEK
Thanks to everyone who came out to the Austin AGC "spring" golf tournament, though it felt more like December weather!

Great to see so many of Austin's leading general contractors, specialty contractors, suppliers, service providers, architects, engineers and owners represented.
