Meet WWF/WWE Legend and author
Bob Backlund

Author and wrestling legend  Bob Backlund will talk about his book Backlund: From All-American Boy
to Professional Wrestling's World Champion.
 
Robert Lee "Bob" Backlund is the former two-time World Wrestling Federation Heavyweight Champion, with an in-ring career that has spanned nearly 40 years. He has wrestled nearly every big name in
the sport, including Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, "Macho Man" Randy Savage, and Andre the Giant.
He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame on April 6, 2013.

Backlund continues to make occasional appearances for the WWE, teaching amateur wrestling to children. He also enjoys life traveling the country as a much-loved motivational speaker.

How to Start Your Non-Profit Business

This workshop will guide you through the beginning stages of forming  a nonprofit business with workshop presenter and SCORE counselor  Bob Potter. You will discover how to officially form a nonprofit  corporation, 
and register with states as a charity, as well as learn about obtaining tax exempt status, fundraising, marketing, the importance of volunteers, 
and creating a business plan for your nonprofit organization.

Presenter: Bob Potter is a graduate of Syracuse University and has more than 40 years of experience in creative management, marketing communications, and nonprofit development for leading corporate, arts, cultural and nonprofit organizations including Time Warner, National Geographic, AOL, National Gallery of Art, Lyme Art Association, Mystic Seaport, and Save the Children. His area of expertise include marketing and communications, web development, market research, fundraising for nonprofits, and strategies planning. Additionally, Bob provides consulting for the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism and volunteer work with the Southeast Connecticut Shoreline Food Pantry.

Social Security Disability Benefits
and Supplemental Security Income

If you recently applied for Social Security disability benefits or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and were denied for medical reasons, you may request an appeal online and provide documents
to support your appeal electronically. You can file an appeal online
even if you live outside of the United States.

Need information on how to apply or request an appeal for Social Security Disability benefits? A representative from the Social Security office will be present to discuss and answer your questions.

The Art of Sewing:
Sewing Classes for Beginners 
 

Wednesdays, June 1 - June 15 
1:30 pm - 3:00 pm  

Come to our three week series of classes to learn the basics
of the machine, including threading the bobbin, choosing seams,
 and adjusting tension. Once you feel comfortable with the machine,
you will learn how to make a small drawstring bag and other things.

Leave the class confident in using your machine
and with something to show for your hard work!

Glenn Miller (James Stewart) is a poor trombone player with dreams
of fame. Eventually, through years of hard work and determination,
he is able to start his own band, and they become one of the most successful groups of the big-band era. With a beautiful wife (June Allyson) and one of the biggest songs in America, "Moonlight Serenade," Miller has it all. But at the onset of World War II, Miller enlists, giving up his fame and success to help entertain the troops stationed in Europe.

Comic Making

Learn how to make a black and white comic strip, from start to
finish, with the amazingly talented illustrator Jacinta Meyers.

No experience necessary,
but be ready to perfect your drawing skills!

 Classes will go over the use of computer applications in addition
to archival ink and paper.  All supplies will be provided.

NL Community Orchestra
Violin Lessons for Children

Free Violin lessons with instruction and instruments
provided  by New London Community Orchestra.
 
New London Community Orchestra is now offering  2 new sessions
of free violin lessons for children (grades 6-9) starting May 3.
Instruments will be provided free of charge, 
and children may take  their violins home to practice.
 
Lessons are in small groups with a professional teacher. 
Session 1 will be 4:00 pm - 4:30 pm, 
and Session 2 will be 4:30 pm - 5:00 pm.
 
Registration is REQUIRED and limited  to 
the number of instruments donated to the program.
