2013 |
This weekend marks the beginning of the triathlon season and as I glance over who is racing I see some names that have been on the list year after year and others who have never been. I know we might have the fastest swimmer of the day and the slowest, possibly the youngest athlete and the oldest.

Andy Van Evera |
We have team members racing who are no longer coached but ALWAYS part of the team and sadly we have one team
member who is no longer at the start line with us. So as you stand on the edge of the pool at the start of the race please soak up the energy and the enthusiasm around you. We are never guaranteed tomorrow so you must focus on being present. While triathlon might be an individual sport our team is indeed one of the strongest out there and that is because of YOU! Collectively we build each other up, we take care of each other. You are never alone when you are on a team like ours.
You will notice that on the sleeve of every t-shirt there are the initials AV. Those are for our fellow team-mate, Andy Van Evera. While wearing his initials will allow us to carry him with us we also need to behave as Andy would. He was always incredibly kind and helpful to others. So this weekend when you are setting up your gear, before the swim or after the race I ask that you all do one kind or helpful thing for another athlete. Help someone that you can see needs it. It will make them feel better and you will feel good too. Just imagine if all 22 of us racing do this the kind of impact it will have!
