School Closed Memorial Day
York Catholic will be closed Monday, May 30, in celebration of Memorial Day.
Class Roster Changes
In February, returning students registered for their 2016-2017 classes, including choosing elective courses where appropriate.  In light of these registrations, the Master Roster of classes is being prepared.  Parents and students are reminded that any roster changes of courses requested must be made by June 1.  Course requests made after June 1 must be accompanied by a written parental request, teacher approval (as originally needed), and a $25.00 Late Roster Change Fee.  Since the Master Roster is built according to the original registration of students, we cannot guarantee admission to particular classes after June 1.

No course changes will be permitted after two calendar weeks once school begins.  The last day for a course change for the 2016-2017 school year will be Friday, September 16.  However, track changes in courses will be considered into the first quarter at the discretion of the subject teacher for any student who has been inaccurately placed in a course.

S enior Breakfast
York Catholic's Class of 2016 is looking forward to graduation and while it's a time to look forward, we find now is also the time our seniors tend to look back and appreciate their high school experience.  They cherish the memories they've created and the friendships they've made.   Because we recognize this important rite of passage, we host a special private breakfast for the students which brings them together to reminisce as a group and share a meal together for the last time as a class, as they are welcomed into the York Catholic Alumni Association.  The Class of 2016's Senior Breakfast will be held on Tuesday, May 24 at 8:30 AM in the cafeteria.

Senior Awards
Parents are invited to join us at the Senior Awards Assembly on Wednesday, May 25, at 8:30 AM in the auditorium.

Baccalaureate & Graduation
York Catholic's Baccalaureate Mass for the Class of 2016 will be held Thursday, May 26, at 7:30 PM at St. Joseph Church in York.  We are honored to have Father John McCloskey, OFM Cap., pastor of St. Joseph Dallastown Parish, as the celebrant with Father Jonathan Sawicki, York Catholic chaplain and pastor of St. Mary's Parish, as our homilist.  Mrs. Livia Riley, Diocesan Superintendent of Schools, will confer the diplomas at Graduation on Friday, May 27, at 7:30 PM in the YC auditorium.  Tickets are required for Graduation.  All requests for extra tickets for graduates' families have been fulfilled.

Congratulations to the Class of 2016!
Plan to Play Sports Next School Year?
Athletic Physicals
All Fall athletes must have a physical dated between June 1, 2016 and August 5, 2016 to be eligible to participate in Fall sports.  Physicals given prior to June 1, 2016 are NOT recognized by the PIAA.

Athletic Physicals for all sports for the 2016-2017 school year will be held on Thursday, June 16, from 6-8 PM at OSS Health at 1855 Powder Mill Road.  Students must bring their completed 7-page PIAA Comprehensive Initial Pre-Participation Physical Evaluation form (CIPPE) that can be printed here or accessed on the homepage of the YC website at www.yorkcatholic.org  (the correct forms will be dated March 17, 2016 at the bottom of page 1).  The forms must be signed by a parent.  Cost for the physical is $15.  Checks should be made payable to York Catholic.  OSS requests student-athletes DO NOT enter the building prior to 5:45 PM.

If you go to your own doctor, you must use the PIAA Sports Physical Form (CIPPE) referenced above.  No other form is acceptable.

Please note:  OSS is conducting sports physicals ONLY.  OSS staff will not be performing driver's license physicals or 11th grade physicals.  All students entering Grade 11 are required by the State of Pennsylvania to have a complete physical prior to the start of the school year.  Grade 11 athletes must schedule an appointment with their personal physician between June 1, 2016 and August 5, 2016.  Be sure to take both physical forms to the appointment (sports physical form & Grade 11 physical form).

ImPACT Testing
There has been extensive media coverage about athletics and concussions.  York Catholic has been at the forefront in this area and includes the ImPACT Test (Immediate Post-Concussive Assessment and Cognitive Testing) to monitor our athletes.

All interscholastic athletes, cheerleaders, and members of the marching band and bandfront are required to take an ImPACT Test to establish a cognitive baseline for concussions. This is an established technology used in order to determine the return to play/activity guidelines for participants who have sustained a concussion.

The test is administered on a computer.  The baseline is adequate for two years. Therefore, if a student participated on a YC team last season and had an ImPACT test, he or she is not required to repeat it this season.

It is the athlete's responsibility to email Mr. Rick Luckman at  [email protected]  to see if a valid ImPACT Test is on file at YC.  If an ImPACT test needs to be taken or re-taken, contact Mr. Luckman for instructions.  Once completed, the student must check with Mr. Luckman to see if the updated ImPACT Test was transmitted properly and is on file.

ImPACT Tests must be completed and Sports Physical Forms must be given to Mr. Luckman by August 5 at 3 PM to be permitted to start Fall practice.

For more information, contact Rick Luckman at [email protected] , Brad Hayek at [email protected] , or Kyle Smink at [email protected] .

Nurse & Coach Volunteers Needed
Volunteer nurses and coaches are needed for Physical Night at OSS on June 16.  Nurse duties include taking blood pressures, pulses, and respiration rates.  Coaches will check athletes in and out and measure heights and weights.  If you are interested, contact Kyle Smink at [email protected] .
Concussion Program
Click here for a flyer about Concussions and the Impact on Learning, presented by the LIU12 BrainSTEPS program, on May 31 at 6:30 PM at St. Joseph York.  Several of our students have experienced concussions during this school year, and we sensed there was a lack of understanding about concussions in our community.  Please RSVP by tomorrow, May 20.
Summer Camps at YC

York Catholic will be the site of various sports camps this summer operated by individual coaches.  Please contact the coach listed in the brochure for more information.
