HUMOR COLUMN
Not be outdone...
Jokes from Keith:

A devout cowboy lost his favorite Bible while he was mending fences out on the range.
Three weeks later, a cow walked up to him carrying the Bible in its mouth. The cowboy couldn't believe his eyes. He took the precious book out of the cow's mouth, raised his eyes heavenward and exclaimed, "It's a miracle!"
"Not really," said the cow, "Your name is written inside the cover."

A priest at an old Episcopalian church was preoccupied with thoughts of how he was going to ask the congregation to come up with more money than they were expecting for repairs to the church building.
Therefore, he was annoyed to find that the regular organist was sick, and a substitute had been brought in at the last minute. The substitute wanted to know what to play.
"Here's a copy of the service," he said impatiently, "But you'll have to think of something to play after I make the announcement about the finances."
During the service, the priest paused and said, "Brothers and sisters, we are in great difficulty. The roof repairs cost twice as much as we expected, and we need $4,000 more. Any of you who can pledge $100 or more, please stand up."
At that moment, the quick-thinking organist began playing Hymn # 720, "The Star-Spangled Banner."

A young boy had just gotten his driver's permit and asked his father, an evangelist, if they could discuss his use of the car.
The father took him into his study and said to the boy, "I'll make a deal with you, son. You bring your grades up from a C to a B, study your Bible a little, get your hair cut, then we'll talk about the car."
Well, the boy thought about that for a moment, and decided that he'd settle for the offer, and they agreed on it.
After about six weeks, the boy came back and again asked his father about using the car.
Again, they went to the study, where his father said, "Son, I've been real proud of you. You've brought your grades up, and I've observed that you have been studying your Bible, and participating a lot more in the Bible study class on Sunday morning. But, I'm real disappointed, since you haven't gotten your hair cut."
The young man paused a moment, and then said, "You know, dad, I've been thinking about that, and I've noticed in my studies of the Bible that Samson had long hair, John the Baptist had long hair, Moses had long hair and there's even a strong argument that Jesus had long hair."
His father replied, "You're right, son. Did you also notice that they all walked everywhere they went?"

An elderly woman had just returned to her home from an
evening of religious service when she was startled by an
intruder.
As she caught the man in the act of robbing her home
of its valuables, she yelled, "Stop! Acts 2:38!"
("Turn from your sin and be baptized")
The burglar stopped dead in his tracks. The woman
calmly called the police and explained what she had
done.
As the officer cuffed the man to take him in, he asked
the burglar, "Why did you just stand there? All the old
lady did was yell a scripture to you."
"Scripture?" replied the burglar. "She said she had an
axe and two 38's!"

A well-worn $1 bill and a similarly distressed $20 bill arrived at a Federal Reserve Bank to be retired. As they moved along the conveyor belt to be burned, they struck up a conversation.
The $20 bill reminisced about its travels all over the country.
"I've had a pretty good life," the $20 bill proclaimed. "Why I've been to Las Vegas and Atlantic City, the finest restaurants in New York, performances on Broadway, and even a cruise to the Caribbean."
"Wow!" said the $1 bill. "You've really had an exciting life!"
"So tell me," says the $20 bill, "where have you been throughout your lifetime?"
The $1 bill replies, "Oh, I've been to the Methodist Church, the Baptist Church, the Catholic Church, the Lutheran Church ..."
"What's a Church." says the $20 bill.
Trinity Tidbits--Week of Trinity Sunday

TOTH logo
This Sunday is a Sunday of two blessings. First, it is Trinity Sunday, the day we remember and celebrate the Holy Trinity, the namesake of our parish. Second, it is Graduation Sunday, where we celebrate those who are graduating from Elementary, Middle, and High Schools.
While these two remembrances may seem unrelated, there is something that can bring the two together. I ask that you be in prayer for all who are graduating, not only for success in their transitions and continued blessings on their lives, but an earnest prayer that these children and young adults will continue to grow in grace and intimacy with God the Holy Trinity, the source of our common life and our salvation.
Mark your calendars to be present at the Graduation Cookout after the 10:30 service, both to celebrate with these graduates and to remind them of your continued prayers.
   Peace,
   Chris

Join Chris at Starbucks this Thursday, 2:30-4pm
Graduation Cook-out on Sunday
Come to a BBQ after the 1030 service.  We are celebrating the end of the school year and our graduating students.  Hamburgers and hot dogs are provided, please bring a side dish and consider helping with clean up and set up.
Please plan on attending the party to congratulate our TOTH children and youth.
Please sign up to bring side dishes and desserts, and to setup and cleanup.
UTO SPRING INGATHERING SUNDAY
United Thank Offering blue boxes and envelopes are in the Narthex. For those who took a box home, please give offerings as you give thanks to God for your daily blessings, then bring the box on Sunday to be offered in the Ingathering. Anyone can grab an envelope on the way into worship and slip some money into it for the offering. More information is available in the article in the May Trinity Tidings. Thanks for everyone's participation in this National Episcopal program.
"Virtual Machine" Assistance Needed
Jane, our office IT person, would like to learn more about "virtual machines" to see if this would be good for our office computer setup.  If anyone in our parish knows how to setup and use virtual machines and would be willing to instruct Jane on them please contact the Church office and let us know.  Thank you.
Field Trip for Elders-- Monday, May 23, 10:00 a.m. (Betty Ehart Senior Center)
The consensus following several inaugural meetings is that TOTH's Elder Group will meet the 4th Monday of every month at 10:00 a.m. in Sherrill Hall. Each elder will take a Monday date and be responsible for a topic or guest speaker(s) in addition to providing both coffee and a light snack. Our first field trip will be hosted by LARSO (Los Alamos Retired and Senior Organization) Executive Director Pauline Schneider who will give an overview of services provided at our Centers as well as lead us on a physical tour of the Betty Ehart Senior Center on Monday, May 23, at 10 a.m. If needed, the Senior Center can provide transportation. Please contact TOTH Elder Group Coordinator Phyllis Bailey Prael. Email or call her if you plan to attend and/or need transportation.
TOTH Playground Project Update
Friday May 27th, there will be concrete delivered to TOTH to pour into the holes for the playground. Please come and help in any way possible. The concrete will be delivered "no later than 10am." Bring a wheelbarrow and gloves if you have them. There will be another work day laying landscaping fabric and the fall material. This should be easier as they're both much lighter. Currently, we are looking at wood mulch for the fall material. Please discuss this decision with Malcolm or Michelle Carr if this gives you any heartburn or angst.

Jerome Colletti, another troop 22 boy scout will be installing the fence after this. We are looking at a beautiful, low maintenance, vinyl, privacy fence with gate. We will be announcing work days when they are set.
PLEASE PICK UP YOUR PLEDGE STATEMENT
(and save the church postage expense)
2016 pledge statements for the first third of the year (through April 30) are available in the office during the week and in the Narthex on Sundays. Please check it over and alert the office about any errors you see.  If you do not want your statement, please inform the office so it can be shredded. Thank you for your giving towards the Kingdom thus far in 2016!
Laurie Triplett's ordination
to the transitional Diaconate is Saturday June 4th at 10am at the Cathedral in ABQ. The Youth Choir is planning on singing. Please come join in this long anticipated celebration. And if able, please bring finger foods for the reception afterwards. If you're unable to attend but want to send food, let Michelle Carr know and she'll arrange to take it down. We're anticipating, between the 2 ordinands, 100+ people attending.

The next Smith's Bucks order will be on Tuesday, May 31 --due by Noon
TOTH's regular order to recharge Smith's Bucks cards is placed every other week, now. This is to try and increase our order and get a larger percentage donation for the church from Smith's. TOTH does much better the more people recharge their cards (or get one for themselves to recharge regularly).
The next deadlines for Smith's orders are the Tuesdays during the week after LANL paydays: May 31, June 14 and 28... Mark your calendars! Thank you for your participation!
Occasional adult backup needed for Youth Group
The high school youth group meets at the Favorites' house most Sundays from 5-6:45. Two adult leaders are required. If you would like to help cover occasional absences, contact the Favorites. It is very fun and low-key and a great way to meet a few of the youth of the parish.
NOTICE REGARDING FIRST SUNDAY OFFERINGS FOR LA CARES
The next offering of paper products, laundry supplies, and non perishable foods will be June 5 (FIRST SUNDAY).  Unfortunately some of our donations have been disturbed and we are now asking, if at all possible, that items come in on that day only, rather than in the interim.   Thanks to all for your generosity in helping our less fortunate neighbors in the community.  All items are picked up by volunteers from LA Cares, usually the following day.
SAVE THESE DATES FOR VBS!
June 20-24 is Vacation Bible School at TOTH. The theme this year is "Cave Quest". Young children are encouraged to participate in the program and middle and high school kids can offer to help. For more information ask Alison Bailey or Ellen McBee.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS-FUN IN THE SUN!
TOTH's Annual Outdoor Worship and Church Picnic is Sunday June 19-Father's Day. The 10:30 service will be held at Rancho Nambe outdoors, under the trees, thanks to the Rochester's. (The 8am service will be at the church as per usual.) Bring your own protein source to grill and a side dish to share. There may be a dessert competition as per usual, too. Some chairs will be provided or you can bring your own lawn chair or blanket to put on the grass. The pool should be staffed by a licensed lifeguard, so bring your swim togs and towels. There are other activities to enjoy as well as worship, eating and swimming-take a walk around the property, visit the horses, pet the dogs, take a nap in the shade...
MORE Efficiency in Parish Life Event Planning with "Sign up Genius"!
Parish Life Ministry would like to streamline events and make the distribution of the work load less onerous. We are doing a few things - ensuring events go under the proper ministry so it doesn't all fall back on Parish Life; ensuring there is a coordinator for each event or it won't happen (someone needs to spear head events); online signups for volunteers or food.
If you're not receiving emails from www.SignUpGenius.com (for sign ups at the church), please email me at [email protected].  And if you want to be removed, please also contact me. I have removed a couple of names and added a couple of names already. This is a way to easily sign up to volunteer for set ups, clean ups and potlucks. You can also go to the SignUpGenius web site and click at the top right to look for sign ups. At the next page, enter my email and the security letters. You'll be directed to our TOTH sign ups. Currently we have 3 - Laurie's ordination RSVP and food, graduation BBQ and coffee hour.    Michelle Carr

Fourth Annual DRG Women's Retreat June 10-11

The weekend starts on Friday evening with dinner at 6pm (registration at 5:30pm) and will end by 3 pm on Saturday.
Registration is $25. You can register online at SpiritedSummer.eventsbot.com or download the form and poster from VarietiesofGifts.blogspot.com.
Lodging is on your own. There are many hotels to choose from, and a few in-home rooms may be available.
Taking our cue from the writings of Madeleine L'Engle, Hildegard of Bingen and others, we'll reflect on ways we create: prayer, meditation, art, music, icons, jewelry, writing, relaxing, cooking, gardening... Come explore this topic and learn that you really are creative, even if you think you aren't artsy-craftsy! In whatever form, our creating makes us 'co-creaters with God' and living icons of God's love in the world.
Invite a friend to come with you, even if she doesn't go to church, to this time to re-create, re-connect, and re-new.

What Makes Us Human?
The Los Alamos Faith & Science Forum is holding a winter series on the topic "What Makes Us Human?", continuing with our last session on May 19. We meet at Kelly Hall at Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church. A video/presentation begins at 6 pm followed by a large group discussion at 6:30, then an optional, informal small group discussion at 7 pm ending at 7:20. Please feel free to bring your dinner. All are welcome. Follow our blog at: www.lafsf.org
This topic of "What Makes Us Human?" will carry us into our summer series, scheduled for Wednesday evenings in June and July.
Thursday, May 19: The Uniqueness of Humans
Robert Sapolsky, Professor of Biology, Neurology and Neuroscience at Stanford, discusses his view, as a practicing primatologist, of what makes humans "uniquier"  -- how we are similar to other primates and how we differ.  Examining 5 topics which are sometimes used to distinguish humans from other primates:  aggression; theory-of-mind; applications of the Golden Rule; empathy; and a capacity for anticipation/deferred gratification, Sapolosky first illuminates some surprising way in which animal behavior parallels human behavior, and then draws distinctions showing what aspects of human behavior distinguishes us from animals, and especially primates.  Sapolsky, describing himself as a "strident atheist", concludes with a surprising thesis of his own about what distinguishes humans from animals, issuing a challenge to the graduating class of Stanford, and to other listeners as well.
About our presenter:
Bob Reinovsky is an elder at White Rock Presbyterian Church and a practicing scientist and program manager at Los Alamos National Laboratory.  He grew up in the Roman Catholic faith, and adopted the Calvinist view that characterizes modern Presbyterians when he was about 26.  His interest in exploring the intersection of science and religious faith is rooted in his conviction that these two ways of understanding the world around us, do not always lead us to the same place; but do complement each other and together make for a richer understanding of who we are and what we are called to be.

From Tom Steward
Prayer and information gathering at New Beginnings Church, 112 East Road, Thursday May 19 at 7:00pm during the first hour of the Celebrate Recovery Los Alamos meeting.

I will be returning to Mbiko, Uganda from May 26 to June 6 to minister at SWAR, Sanyuka Women at Risk. SWAR is a center that rescues women and children off the streets who are trapped in human trafficking, offering them respite at the Center for one year. While at the Center staff members love on these women and children and teach them from the Scriptures. The women are taught a skill so they don't have to return to prostitution. I will train staff members in counseling skills and help further implement a Celebrate Recovery program, as well as offer devotionals to the women in order to encourage them. I will teach at a local church and will be the key speaker at a weekend crusade from June 2 to 4.

I would like to invite you to a combined service at New Beginnings Church on Thursday, May 19 at 7:00pm, in order to gather together as a community to pray for this endeavor and to provide prayer covering for this important venture. Merchandise made by the women of Uganda will be available and all proceeds will go to the Center. Please join us if you are able.
