City-County Council Certifies Referendum!

Exciting news everyone! The Indianapolis/Marion County City-County Council, on May 9, 2016, certified a referendum on transit funding.

In the November 2016 general election, Marion County residents will decide whether to increase the income tax by 0.25% (25ยข for $100 of income) to establish a dedicated source of funding for transit.

Throughout this summer, the Indy Connect team will be out and about, educating people and their organizations about the plan for improving transit service in Marion County, so that everyone can be as informed as possible when they cast their votes in November.

If you'd like a speaker for your group or organization, feel free to email us at [email protected] or leave us a voicemail at 317-327-8601.

A Conversation about Indy's Walkable Future (free) - June 9

Christopher B. Leinberger is the co-author of "Foot Traffic Ahead," which  ranks the country's 30 largest metropolitan areas based on the strength of their Walkable Urban Places.  The 2016 updated version of the study will be released June 14.

On June 9, Leinberger will discuss the benefits of businesses locating close together, including better access to workers and customers, new ideas inspired by competition, and a collective success that exceeds what businesses could achieve separately. He  will specifically discuss Indy's walkability as it compares to other cities, what Indy's ranking might mean for the local economy, and the trend of Walkable Urbanism as it relates to mass transit. He'll also talk about how more walkable regions correlate with higher earnings, a more educated workforce, higher GDP, better quality of life and stronger real estate markets.

Street Teams, Coming to a Community Event Near You!

As part of our mission to reach as many people as possible, and answer any questions they have about the Central Indiana Transit Plan, Indy Connect is launching a brand new initiative, the Street Teams! They will be attending community events all summer long, engaging people and answering questions. If you see teams in light blue shirts, having way too much fun with things on wheels, stop and say hi!

Contact us at   [email protected]  if you'd like us at an event with at least 250+ people. No promises, but if we can we'll be there!

IndyGo Ambassadors, hitting the streets soon!

More than 50 trained volunteers will be downtown at stops around the loop, at the new Julia M. Carson Transit Center, and riding buses May 23 through July 2 to assist riders with using the IndyGo bus system. They will also share information about upcoming IndyGo route changes and project updates.

The new Julia M. Carson Transit Center will open this June, and along with it changes to many of IndyGo's routes, including new ways to transfer between routes downtown. The Transit Ambassadors will help people learn the new downtown route changes and how to use the new transit center, and their  goal is to offer a warm welcome, information, and a friendly face.
