The school calendar is packed full of exciting end of year events such as the French and Latin Awards, our annual Field Day, a PCO Family Movie Night and much more.  You'll find important year end dates just below, please be sure to add them to your personal calendars.

Likewise, many of our Grade Seven students are working on their Capstone Projects. You'll find a bevvy of after school activities, donation drives and more in the Capstone Corner section towards the bottom of today's issue.

A few students in Grades Four and Five are needed to help carry the BFCCPS Banner during the Memorial Day Parade. Please contact Mrs. Schwab if you can help.



As a reminder, BFCCPS has an early release scheduled for Thursday, May 19th at noon.





We have heard from Mr. Benjamin's family and he is doing well!  Things went better than expected, and we are hoping for a speedy recovery! If your students would like to create a card for Mr. Benjamin you are welcome to send your well wishes to the Front Office and we would be happy to mail them to his home.

Board of Trustees:
  
The Board of Trustees is looking for a few talented and conscientious volunteer board members to help lead the Benjamin Franklin Classical Charter Public School.  We are especially looking for persons with experience in Finance. If you can contribute your time and are interested in exploring this opportunity further, please e-mail Board of Trustees Clerk, Sagar Kamarthi.    
 
Announcements:
  • Banking will be held on Thursday, May 19th.  Please  note that the last week for banking will be Thursday, June 2nd.
  • French Awards on Friday, May 27th at 9:00 am in the auditorium for students in grades 6, 7 and 8.  M. ValĂ©ry Freland, the French Consul General in Boston will be here to recognize our medalists. **Please note that this time is 10 minutes earlier than previously announced.**
  • The last session of the Magic the Gathering Club will be Friday, May 27th.
  • The last session of Homework Club will be Thursday, June 2nd.
  • Fifth Grade Parents are invited to participate in a model French Class with your student on June 8th. We will do some fun, interactive language activities to simulate what your students do in French class.  They will also present their year end oral reports which are amazing! Bienvenue! 5 Bartsch will run from 10:10 to 11 am and 5 Lynch from 11:00 to 11:50.
  • On June 6 - 10, the 6 graders will be holding an Epilepsy Foundation clothing drive fundraiser at the school in order to defray the cost of the Quebec field trip next year.
Heifer International our Global Service Partner

We are thrilled to announce the kickoff of our annual Heifer International Service Project.  This is our 10th year working with Heifer, and in that time we have raised over $37,000!  If you're not familiar with Heifer, we encourage you to learn more by watching this short video

Over the next few weeks Grades K-5 will be participating Read to Feed, Grade 6 will be writing and selling anthologies, and students in Grades 7 &  8 will compete in Penny Wars.

Ben's Backyard Bash

Students in grades Five through Eight are invited to attend an outdoor social organized by the Student Council on May 27th from 5-8 pm. Food and drinks will be available for purchase at the events. Please note all tickets must be purchased in advance.

The Benjamin Franklin Classical Charter Public School is pleased to announce the 2016 Summer Course Offerings! This year's classes are offered by BFCCPS faculty and staff members and Susie Pallis from DramaKids.

This year the BFCCPS Art Show will be held at the Dean Campus Center in the Guidrey Center located on the first floor. Parking is available in the main parking lot off Rt 140 at the Campus Center.
 
The Spring Concert and Awards Night will be held on June 6th which is 
a change from the previously published date.

Please Volunteer your Time! We need YOU!!

With Spring comes one of the best events of the year at BFCCPS... Teacher Appreciation!   

In particular, volunteers are still needed for the International Lunch and the Gift Baskets. Please note: As the International Lunch falls on a Professional Development Early Release Day, students are welcomed to assist with their parent's volunteer duties.


Yearbook Ads and Yearbook Order Forms are now available and ONLY accepted through early June. Yearbooks must be pre-ordered for delivery in the fall and are available for $20 each. You can honor your child with a personal message in the yearbook for only $5 each. 
 
Save the date for the PCO Family Movie Night to be held this Friday Night, May 20th from 7:30 to 10 PM. Kids will vote for the movie of their choice and water, popcorn and a sweet treat will be available. More details available on this flyer. Please note that all students must be accompanied by a parent, this is not a drop-off activity.   
 
Capstone Corner: 
   
Field Hockey Clinic: Adriana N. (7th grade) will be holding a field hockey clinic at BFCCPS fields for her capstone project.  This clinic will be open to student students from grades kindergarten to 5th grade. The camp will be $20 for 5 sessions or $5 for one session.The camp begins May 10th and runs through June 7th from 3:30 to 4:30. Click for more details and an enrollment packet.
 
Popsicle Sales:

Vibha K. will holding a popsicle sale from May 16th through the 20th for students in grades 3-6 during recess for $1.00 each. All proceeds will be donated to an animal shelter in India which supports strays in need. 
   
  Joshua R. will be having a soccer clinic for students in grades 1 and 2 to raise money for the Bellingham Senior Center, as part of his capstone project. The clinic will be supervised by his mother and will run May 26, June 2, and June 9 from 3:3 to 4:30 p.m.  The cost is $10 per class.

Donation Drive: Mythili B. will be holding a donation drive from May 16 through May 26 to benefit Planet Aid.  Her Capstone Project is designed to raise awareness for recycling.  Please help by donating gently used clothing, donation bins will be available on each floor.

Donation Drive for Bellingham Senior Center:  Josh R. will b
e having a donation drive for the Bellingham Senior center as part of his Capstone Project. He will be collecting unused cards (thank you, get well, sympathy, birthday and holiday cards) shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, mouthwash, soap, hand sanitize, deodorant, tissues, baby wipes insect repellent, sunscreen and band aids.  The drive will run May 20 through June 2nd and a bin will be available in the Front Office. Donated items will be used to help the residents to live happier and better lives, and a portion will also be donated to the Bellingham Food Pantry.

Casey Maeve B. will be holding a drive for 100% cotton fabric, plastic beads and gimp from May 20 through June 10th as part of her Capstone Project to benefit Dress A Girl Around the World.  Boxes will be available in near the trophy case. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.  


Panera Fundraiser Day for Franklin Girls Softball on Saturday, 5/28: Did you know only 1 in 3 children are physically active everyday? Please help Leila F.'s capstone project to support youth sports programs and the Franklin Girls Softball Association.

Visit Panera in Franklin on Saturday, 5/28, to raise funds for this worthy cause by showing the attached flyer when placing your order. Funds go towards youth sporting equipment, scoreboards, field maintenance and more. Thanks for your support!

R eminders from the Front Office:
 
Visitors: All visitors to the school are required to sign in at the Front Office and wear a Visitor's badge. Visitors must be escorted at all times.  Thank you for your help with this!
 
Parking & Parking Lot Safety:  Parking is not allowed in marked reserved spots near the schools main entrance. These spots are reserved for the CCD program staff.

Please adhere to the posted arrival and dismissal procedures which are posted here our website.  

 
To submit events for the School Calendar or to place building space requests please fill out a Blue Sheet in the front office and submit to the Assistant Head of School, Joe Perna. 

To submit content to the Buzz for publication, please email Joanne Basile with your 2-3 sentence blurb by no later than Monday at noon for publication in that Wednesday's issue.
