Mother and Son Evening of Fun -   The City of Westland is hosting a Star Wars themed Mother's Day Party for Moms and sons on  Saturday, May 7 .  Young men from ages 4 to 14 are encouraged to bring their mom, grandmother, or any other important woman to City Hall to enjoy dinner, dancing, and a red carpet walkway complete with Star Wars characters.  The party starts at 6:30 Saturday in the Grand Ballroom of City Hall and you can order tickets by clicking  here.

Mornings with the Mayor -   Mayor William R. Wild is taking his monthly "Mornings with the Mayor" on the road in 2016. Mornings with the Mayor helps residents connect with Mayor Wild and his administration about matters of importance regarding City services or programs and events. This month's "Mornings with the Mayor" will take place on  Tuesday, May 10  and will take place at Inspire  Theater , located at 33455 Warren Rd.  This month's meeting is sponsored by Michigan Chiropractic. We will be raffling off five $10 Meijer gift cards. To be entered into the raffle, you just need to sign up to walk at the kick off of the Relay for Life event on June 4 at 10:00 a.m.  Individuals walking for Mayor Wild's team "Wild's Walkers" will also receive a free t-shirt!

Westland Farmer's and Artisan Market Held Every Thursday - 
The Westland Farmer's Market will be held from 3 - 7 p.m. every Thursday in the new, beautiful Farmer's Marketplace, located in Cental City Park.  This is the ultimate site for farmers, growers and producers to sell their own products directly to the public.

Friday Night Dinner and a Movie - Dinner and a Movie returns to the Westland Public Library on Friday, May 13.  Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. and at 7:00 p.m. there will be a free showing of the Oscar winning film, The Revenant (Rated R).  You can contact the library at (734)326-6123 for ticket information.

Westland Figure Skating Club's Annual Ice Show -  This weekend the Westland Figure Skating Club will be presenting their 40th Annual Ice Show at the Mike Modano Ice Arena.  Over the past four decades this group has been entertaining sellout crowds as skaters of all ages perform to an energetic and fun soundtrack.  This year's theme is "Tune In",  so they will be featuring Television Theme Songs.  The shows are Friday, May 13 at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, May 14 at 6:00 p.m. and a matinee performance on Sunday, May 15 at 1:00 p.m..  The Mike Modano Ice Arena is located on Wildwood between Ford and Hunter and you can call them at 734-729-4560.

North Brothers Ford/City of Westland 5k Fun Run - This year, the North Brothers Ford/City of Westland 5K Fun Run will take place on Saturday, May 14 beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Central City Park.  Each year this event raises money for the Karmanos Cancer Institute for Breast Cancer Research.  You can register online at www.northbrothers.com or you can sign up Saturday morning before the race.

SAVE THE DATE - City of Westland's 50th Anniversary Celebration - May 16th, 1966 is the day that Westland officially became a City and so, on Monday, May 16 of this year, we will be celebrating our 50th Anniversary.  Beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Westland City Hall, there will be a ceremony to open up the time capsule that was buried a half century ago.  Throughout the day there will be opportunities for you to view the contents, and also tour the City Hall.  Later in the afternoon, WLND will be shooting a panel discussion with Mayor William R. Wild and former mayors of our great city.  And we cap off the evening with a special Mayor's Homecoming Reception at 7:00 p.m.  You can find more information at www.cityofwestland.com and our Facebook page.  So be sure to mark your calendars to join us on Monday, May 16th as we celebrate our Golden Anniversary.
