Meet Our Valedictorian
Miss Danielle Echeverria

Danielle Echeverria, Class of 2016 Valedictorian

Congratulations to the Class of 2016 Valedictorian, Miss Danielle Echeverria!  Danielle came to Garces from St. Francis Parish School and has been a stellar student and a stand out Garces Ram.  She is graduating with a 4.97 GPA and will have completed seven AP courses - European History, Psychology, US History, English, Biology, Government & Economics, and Computer Science.  While at Garces, Danielle has been an active and involved student.  She was a member of the girls cross country team, Link Crew, CSF, Interact, the GMHS National Honor Society, and the Garces Book Club. She served as the President of both Link Crew and the National Honor Society.  She served as the secretary of the Interact Club.  She was selected to be the Vice President of Marketing and Sales of our new virtual business class, which has evolved into a real business, That T-Shirt Company.  Danielle's hobbies include Basque dancing, running, and drinking cappuccinos. Danielle was accepted into several prestigious colleges and universities and has decided to attend Stanford University this fall, where she will major in economics. Danielle leaves Garces with lots of great memories and says some of her favorites are laughing and sharing stories with all her friends during lunch; the time Mr. Geissel pulled a prank on the entire class and everyone fell for it; and all of Mr. Detloff's "ghetto stories" about his childhood adventures.  She says that the one thing she will take with her is that all of her teachers were so caring about all the students and she wants to be the same way as an adult.  Danielle shared that it has been nice to practice her faith every day and that it made her high school experience complete.  Her advice for incoming freshman is to get to know all the teachers because "they are the best" and to take part in all the school spirit activities and rallies because "they are so much fun".  We wish Danielle all the best at Stanford University where she is sure to be a stand out student there as well.

Class of 2016 College & Military Commitment Day

Tuesday was an awesome day on our campus! Garces held its first annual commitment day for our seniors on our campus with special guest speaker, Congressman Kevin McCarthy. 100% of our seniors participated and we celebrated every one of them! This year, all of our seniors but two, are going to college this fall. The two who aren't, are bravely joining our military. Gabe Granillo is joining the US Air Force and Joseph Machado is joining the US Marines. We are so proud of the Class of 2016! A big thank you to Mr. Blaine Geissel and the Counseling Department (Denise Limi, Jillian Bischoff, & Amy Poochigian) for making the day possible.

Message from
Mrs. Debra Sakowski
Asst. Principal for
Academic Affairs

Dear Parents,

Wow!  Can you believe it ?!!  In 8 days our seniors will graduate and begin a new life's journey.  They have been preparing for this moment for the past four years at Garces and, as each day dawns we all grow one step closer to saying, "Good-bye."  While the thought of this moment tugs at our heartstrings and sends us searching for a box of Kleenex, we find comfort knowing that we still have these eight days to relish in our duties as parents.  May I take a moment to remind you of a few of these 'last minute' duties?  I am hopeful, listing them in the following format will be the most helpful to you.

Senior Exams- If your student has achieved a 93% or above in a class and is "opting out" of the final, you must call and excuse them for that period.  This is a safety issue, as we want to know that you know they are not at school.

Evening Senior Awards Program - You are all invited to attend.  If your student is receiving an award, you will have received a letter and or phone call notifying you that they will be recognized at the event.  This is a mandatory event for all seniors who are attending the Magic Mountain trip

Graduation Tickets- Your students received 12 tickets. If you need more, please contact Mrs. Hylton prior to next Friday.

Caps and Gowns- You should have your student's cap and gown by this date, as they were handed out on April 25th.  If you did not receive your items, please contact Jostens.

Baccalaureate Mass - May 17th @7:00pm.
St. Francis Church, 900 H Street, Bakersfield

Commencement- May 18th -Doors will open @ 6:30 pm.  Students must be in their assigned dressing room area at 7:00 p.m. in  formal dress with cap and gown. Commencement begins at 7:30 pm. Semi-formal dress for all family and guests. Graduation ticket required for admittance to the ceremony.

For parents of underclassmen, please remember attendance is an important factor for a student's success at Garces. With upcoming finals, please make sure you schedule appointments, etc. after the school day. Your student's finals will begin on May 24th and culminate on May 27th.  These next two weeks provide you with an opportune time to have your student begin reviewing for their final exams.  If you are planning on signing your student up for summer school, the registration deadline, without a late fee, is May 6th.  Please check with your student's counselor if you have questions regarding classes your student needs to remediate for the summer.  Please note, all grades of "F" must be remediated the summer prior to the upcoming school year.
