VNC Election:  Candidate Filing Interest Continues to Climb!

CANDIDATE FILING IS GOING GREAT!!!!!!!!

If you want to also make a difference in the Venice community, you can still sign up to run for one of the 21 Board Offices  right now - go to   EmpowerLA.org/elections.

Not sure what office to run for?  How about Treasurer.

The Treasurer:
  • Chairs the Budget and Finance Committee
  • Oversees the finances of the Neighborhood Council to assure total compliance with all Department of Neighborhood Empowerment (Department) and Los Angeles City requirements
  • Submits financial reports to the Board of Officers at every regular meeting
That is the official description of the responsibilities of the Treasurer.

In a Venice Neighborhood Council (VNC) election, the candidate for Treasurer who receives the most votes wins. Only people who live, work, or own property within the VNC area may vote for this Board Office.

There will be a recruitment town hall "Politics Ain't for Sissies" on March 31, 2016, at which you will be able to sign up to run and be certified as a candidate on the spot. Be sure to bring documentation that verifies that you are you, and that you live, work, own property, or have an ongoing interest within the VNC area.

Final date to file for candidacy is April 6, 2016... so be sure to register as soon as possible!

Metro Seeks Venice Organizations for Outreach
Metro would like to thank the Venice Neighborhood Council for inviting us to its February meeting; and allowing us the opportunity to make a presentation regarding our immediate plans for Division 6 on Main Street.  As you may know by now, Metro stopped operating busses out of Division 6 in late 2015.  In a succeeding Board Action, the Metro Board designated the land to be developed consistent with the agency's Joint Development Policy. Before the Joint Development process may begin, Metro must complete environmental testing on the site.  Results of this testing will determine the next environmental-related steps. We plan to come back to the Neighborhood Council in May and provide an update of our activities.  In the interim, if you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact Eric Geier at (213) 922-4229 or geiere@metro.net.

Metro representatives will be at Venice Farmers Market on Friday, March 25, to discuss plans for the former bus yard located between Main and Pacific near Sunset.
