Med Ed Grand Rounds: Improving Handoffs by Applying Cognitive Load Theory

On May 11 at noon, John Q. Young, MD, from the Department of Psychiatry at the Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine will join us as Med Ed Grand Rounds speaker. In this lecture, Dr. Young will talk about his doctoral work in education, where he is applying a learning theory, cognitive load theory, to medical education, and, in particular, patient handoffs.
Dr. Young is currently a doctoral degree candidate in the Doctoral Program in Health Professions Education, a collaborative program between UCSF and University of Utrecht in the Netherlands. Registration details... |

NCFDD Faculty Success Program/Virtual Boot Camp

Register today for the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD) Faculty Success Program/Virtual Boot Camp. The UCSF Office of Academic Affairs and the Academic Senate Committee on Equal on Opportunity (EQOP) have partnered to sponsor faculty participation in this program.
Six eligible faculty members will be fully funded to participate in a web-based professional development program organized by the NCFDD¹s Faculty Success Program. All paid faculty at 50% time or more, in any series, are eligible to apply.

UCSF/Macy Conference Highlights GME Innovations Commitment to Health Care Equity
|
Despite myriad challenges facing graduate medical education (GME), "change is already happening" through diverse innovations across the US, said Macy Foundation President George Thibault, MD, at the UCSF/Macy Foundation conference held on March 30. In his opening remarks, Thibault linked GME and the healthcare system itself: "We want to celebrate GME as part of how we bring about health care reform." By Christopher Cook.
