Happenings at the Resort...May 2016
Greetings from Port Ludlow -

Oh joy! We are approaching the long days of summer - and in the Northwest that is a celebration! The birds woke me up well before the alarm today....that sure makes you want to get going!  So, we do! It is remarkable to see so many locals on the trails at dawn - and our visitors are out and about too.

One of my favorite conversations this week was with a guest from Seattle - traveling with a friend of hers to Port Ludlow - for the first time in many years....and she said that "as we crossed the ferry and then the bridge, we looked at one another and said - 'can you smell that?  it smells like GREEN' and then they both took one long deep breath" - and I think we can all relate to this.....

In fact, there is scientific evidence that time in the woods is good for your brain.

This "smell of GREEN" resonates with me - and if it does with you - then let me know.  What OTHER smell or sense does this area evoke for you? (I can imagine some of you saying, the smell of bacon as Chef prepares for another day - or perhaps the BBQ smoker as we approach June again or maybe the sweet smell of granola on the days we make this...)

Speaking of Chef Dan, you will find him at the Artisan Festival in Port Townsend on Saturday, May 28th. That's at the Farmer's Market in Uptown - at 2:00 p.m. Bring your kids/grandkids and learn how you can apply for the Kids Menu Tasting on Saturday, June 18th.

So with the view of summer ahead we look forward to seeing you around the Inn soon.

P.S. You never know what you'll find on the trails these days - first one to let us know where this one is (and any story behind it?) will win two lunches on July 4th for the Potlatch Celebration.
Last month we asked about the Pickleball Courts. The winner of the contest was Allan Tyson - he won an overnight stay - and while at the Inn, should he desire, he (and all guests staying at the Inn) can now play on these courts - located nearby at The Beach Club.  Paddles and balls can be checked out at the Front Desk - and further details are available there.
Golf.
May marks the 41st anniversary for the Port Ludlow Golf Course. The course opened May 9th, 1975. We are delighted that some of the original golf course employees Dick Schmidt, Superintendent, and Ted Wurtz, PGA Teaching Profesional and original General Manager, are on staff with us today.

Save the Date, Thursday, May 12th, there is a Cleveland Scoring Clinic at the golf course from noon to 1:30pm. For $99.99 enjoy a 90 minute short game group lesson and a free Cleveland wedge. Please call the Golf Shop at 360.437.0272 to reserve your spot.
Marina.
Opening Day for boating is Saturday, May 14th. Join the Port Ludlow Yacht Club in a meaningful celebration that morning. The celebration begins at 10:00am followed by a christening of new member vessels and a parade of boats around Ludlow Bay.

The photo above is of the Port Ludlow Yacht Club's 2015 Commodore's boat anchored in the middle of Ludlow Bay as the boats left their slips to partake in the annual boat parade.
Inn.
The Inn is thrilled to be included in both Kiwi Collection's newsletter & The Huffington Post in " 6 US National Parks to Visit in 2016". The centennial of National Park Service is this year - so take advantage of all that our parks have to offer - including the ones within view and driving distance of Port Ludlow.

Mother's Day  is coming up on Sunday, May 8th. We will celebrate with you in a special way with photos of our Moms/Grandmothers as part of the decor.  Please call for reservations at The Fireside  - 360.437.7412.  Here's a recent one of my Mom - as we were teaching her (at 90) how to take a photo and text it to us!
We are delighted to offer a new activity for our guests - Pickle Ball at The Beach Club.  Please contact the Front Desk for details and let us know how it goes.  Did you know this sport that started right here in Washington is now popular across the country? Read more about Pickle Ball on our blog

May Wednesday Dinners are all about KABOBS  and we are bringing back the 'Q - that's BBQ every Wednesday in June (and there are, yippee, five Wednesdays in June!) Make your reservation through The Fireside at 360.437.7412 - this is a pretty popular night now, so please let us know you are coming.

One of Chef Dan's visions is to share a weekend with those interested in "taking it to the next level" in the culinary world. He has put together a retreat, along with three other professionals to share more about how you can be a "home chef" and a deeper understanding of this fascinating world of food and beverage. This is limited to 20 rooms, double occupancy and we hope to fill the slots very soon. If you are interested, please check out the details here.
Home.
We are excited to announce that floor plans have been finalized for the first model home in Olympic Terrace II. It is a 1,500 square foot, single-story model home that will be open to the public this winter.

In the meantime, come visit Ludlow Cove Cottages. The model homes are open 7 days a week from 11am to 5pm. Please call Joe Buskirk at 253-359-3113 for questions of information.
Groups & Events.
This is the time to start thinking about how to celebrate with your teams in a meaningful way - and it's not too early to plan a Holiday Party to do so. Contact our Sales team at 360-437-7040 if you are ready to get this off of your "to-do" list and give them something to look forward to.
