Speculating on the stories objects tell about life in cities, rising and falling, and rising and falling, a cycle of tides driven by economics, politics and industry. In gallery 2, Marcellini has curated the group exhibition "Grammars of Place," including artists Anthony Discenza (US), Malak Helmy (EG), Effi Weiss & Amir Borenstein (BE/IL), Adva Zakai (EB/IL), and Wesley Taylor (US).

David Klein Gallery

Pictures of You
David Klein Gallery, Detroit presents Pictures of You: Jamie Adams, Andrew Krieger, Stephen Magsig, Robert Schefman, Trevor Young April 29 - June 4, 2016. The five painters in this show are known for their masterful technique and for their realist practice. While the viewer recognizes the landscapes and figures in these paintings what we see is not actually real, it is, of course, an illusion. Jamie Adams' women are not actually in the room with us. We are not standing in front of Stephen Magsig's Rouge plant. With the exception of Andrew Krieger, the artists are painting on a two dimensional surface but produce the illusion of life as we know it, the illusion of real people and landscape.
