Rabbi's Message
Jerry Cutler

Much Love, Rabbi Jerry
Rabbi Jerry Ram Cutler

It was my first day of class. I had never been to school before nor had I ever left my mother's side. I was the perennial appendage to her hip. I don't remember which hip. Besides, it doesn't matter as I had yet to learn my left from my right.

At any rate, it was my mother, Edna, who walked with me on a blistering hot Bronx summer's day, hand in hand, towards the school she hoped I was to attend. I believe it was on a hill, but then again, what wasn't on a hill in the Bronx?

To digress, I distinctly remember being on my tricycle one day when we were walking on a street, a hilly one, of course, when my mother (I never called her anything else) turned her head for a split second and I decided to ride down the hill. As I rocketed down, unescorted, my mother realizing that I was heading straight for a heavily trafficked avenue, started to yell at the top of her lungs, "Help, somebody stop my son, help"

As my momentum escalated, a man came out of a store and just before I reached the avenue stood spread eagle in my path. As I hit him, he flew in one direction and I in another.

My mother huffing and puffing reached us and after retrieving his hat, which had flown into the street, gingerly assisted the man to his feet. She then tried to wipe the smudge from his hat - it had fallen in a puddle. Embarrassed, he told her it was okay and continued on his way. . She watched him limp away and hugged me tightly. I really loved that woman!

Now, back to school. I was led into a classroom, never once letting go of my mother's hand. The teacher took me to a seat. I noticed my mother wasn't going to sit next to me. Tears started to well up in my eyes. With compassion, the teacher told me not to worry as my mother was going to sit in the back of the room.
The class began. A few minutes into reciting the A's, B's and C's written on the blackboard, I turned to look at my mother.  She wasn't there.

I got up and started to leave. When asked where I was going, I said, "To find my mother."

I was told that she would be waiting just outside the door when class was over. I told her it wasn't good enough and made a mad dash for the door. The teacher blocked my escape lest all of the kids made a break for it. I started to cry very, very loud.

Soon, the principal, vice principal and a couple of other teachers were trying to calm me down as well as a few other kids who were, before I entered the classroom, well adjusted to the fact that their mommy's weren't going to stay.

My beautiful mother showed up shortly after my scene and promised never to leave me again. A few weeks later, my mother enrolled me in Ramaz Hebrew Academy.  But, that's a story for the next Mother's Day.

Happy Mother's Day, my dear mother, I miss you more than you can ever realize.
Your loving son, Jerry

Happy Mother's Day to all of our mothers. Needless to say, I love you all.

"Feel the Bern".  The Socialist Jewish guy, who is at      best "passive" toward Israel is giving Hillary all she    can handle. But not to worry. Hillary has the "super-delegates" all  locked up. The nomination is hers UNLESS she gets indicted by the DOJ re: the e-mail scandal.  Which is doubtful.

The Repubs are in for a "donnybrook" convention UNLESS The Donald acquires the necessary 1327 delegates prior to the June convention. It's a close call. If he doesn't get there, it's anybody's ballgame.

According to Winston Churchill.........Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy. It's inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.

John Adams once said...........Democracy never lasts long, it soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There was never a democracy that did not commit suicide.

I don't know about you, but I prefer to think of the definition of socialism as ............two wolves and a sheep voting on, what's for dinner.

I'm hoping John Adams was wrong.  "Feel the Bern".  The Socialist Jewish guy, who is at best "passive" toward Israel is giving Hillary all she can handle. But not to worry. REVIEW FROM THE PEW
By Rabbi Jerry Ram Cutler

Man who knew Infinity
"The Man Who Knew Infinity"

Had it not been for a Brooklyn Board of Education (yes, there was such a board) edict that it was okay to graduate students who earned sufficient academic credits in subjects other than math, I would still be a student at Thomas Jefferson High School.

With that being said, I couldn't fully grasp the true story of the mathematic genius, Srinavasa Ramanujan who was born in 1887 to a religious Indian family.

However, I was enthralled with the direction of Matthew Brown who also wrote the screenplay and brilliant acting of Dev Patel (Ramanujan) and Toby Jones (Professor Littlewood). Jeremy Irons is outstanding in his depiction of Ramanujan's mentor and friend, the acerbic Professor GH Hardy.

Against all odds, the young, recently married Ramanujan is accepted to Cambridge at the behest of Hardy who overrides his fellow faculty members' objections.
Hardy's request for Ramanujan to write out the steps he takes before reaching his conclusions are never given as the young genius explains that solutions are given to him by God while he slept and prayed. Hardy, a practicing atheist, is hard put to accept that mystical explanation.

Ramanujan's strength and convictions go through strains of racial verbal and physical attacks but he never gives up his fight for his work to be published, The story line about revolutionizing math through unconventional methods is deliberate and done without gunfights, blood gushing or loud pyrotechnic explosions. What we have is a low-key feel good story, told very well and filled with spurts of humor.
