The summer can be hard on some of us humans as well as our pets. It is especially more difficult in Arizona, as the temperatures get into the triple digits where the heat can last far longer than in other parts of the country.
 
It is always best to keep your pets indoors, especially during excessive heat (or cold). There is no place that is safer for them than inside the home.

Laura Russell Joins Second Home Pet Resort's Grooming Department


While grooming dogs for extra money during college, Laura Russell soon found out that dogs were her best friends rather than books. The long-time dog lover left school and took on grooming full time. That was 40 years ago, and she never looked back.

Her experience as a groomer has taken her from Tempe and Phoenix to Fillmore and Ojai, California. She is a loyal employee who has spent at least eight years at each place she worked, so she plans on making Second Home Pet Resort her last and final "home" in her career.
 
Laura is a certified trade school teacher, and entered and completed the Grooming Certification program with two major certification organizations when the program first started. In addition to her grooming expertise, Laura spent several years teaching at Pedigree School of Grooming. She also is a Certified Master Groomer with the National Dog Groomers Association.

She has a special place in her heart for rescue animals and has worked with rescues for the past 16 years. Currently she is president of AZ Pug Life Rescue Society . She especially enjoys working with behavioral and medical special-needs dogs.
 
Although Laura usually has a house filled with fosters, she has nine of her own dogs. They include five pugs, a standard poodle, a Chiweenie, and two Chihuahua terrier mixes.  
 
As a groomer, Laura enjoys working on all breeds, especially when she can use her scissoring skills and sculpt coats.
