Melting glass, also known as the ancient art of kiln forming, is fun and addictive! This fast paced class will give you a chance to explore dichroic kiln fired glass and many of the techniques that make melting glass so exciting. We will be using Bullseye COE 90 glass to create many kiln fired dichroic pendants, working with both clear and black dichroic glass.
Also, explore other Bullseye glass colors/products, using sheet, frit confetti and stringers, to create abstract or landscape images in the pendants. Get ready to work hard and have fun! Glass technology, safety, glass cutting, cold working equipment, resources, and creative directions will be covered. You will create approximately 12 pendants, depending on size. Due to firing and annealing times, your finished pieces can be picked up at the Meredith League Gallery. No glass experience necessary.
- Day 1: Students will be using clear and black dichroic glass as a base and then layering colored dichroic glass over to create sparkle and depth. We will cut and assemble 2 pieces of glass that will be full fused into large squares.
- Day 2: In the second class students will cut and shape your full fused glass into pendants, using a variety of cold working techniques. You will gain cold working experience by using different equipment to achieve the desired pendant shapes. The cold working equipment includes: Grinder, flat lap grinder, glass band saw and drill press. Before firing a second time to fire polish your work, we will add fine silver to create a way to hang your pendant.
Materials: Bullseye Glass and use of materials Included in the tuition. Students will receive several sterling silver 18" chains.
