Lutheran Vacation
Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. ~
1 Cor. 12:4-7
Dear Friends~
Oops- I mean VOCATION!
Vocation: that God calls - Latin vocare, from which "vocation" comes - each of us to use our distinct passions, gifts, and experiences for the sake of the world God loves so much. Lutherans hold this teaching close to heart as it is closely related to how we live our lives as the priesthood of all believers.
The popular view of Martin Luther's teaching about Christian vocation is that it has to do with one's occupation. That is, when one is "called" to follow Christ one's occupation becomes the "calling" in which one serves God. This is not a completely wrong interpretation of Luther as much as it is one-sided and incomplete. A more complete view of Luther's interpretation of Christian vocation belongs to our situation between baptism and the final resurrection - that is, all of life in its fullest sense.
Christian vocation is about recognizing our talents and finding our passions--- and using them in all of life, from business, to home, to relationships and more.
Sir Ken Robinson, PhD is a recognized leader in the development of creativity, innovation and human resources in education and in business. He is author of the book-The Element: How Finding Your Passion Changes Everything.
The Element
introduces readers to a new concept of self-fulfillment through the convergence of natural talents and personal passions.
Finding one's passion and true purpose in life is essential to human flourishing; this is vocation. Take a look at this 3-minute animated short about finding your true purpose and passion-so that you might flourish! SEE VIDEO
See you on Sunday!
