Crossing the finish line at the end of a Cross Country race feels pretty good but seventh grader Hallie Baffic got an extra rush of adrenaline as she finished the race last Saturday at Strong Rock. Just as she crossed the finish line, she caught sight of her father who had just returned from a deployment in the Middle East.

Hallie's dad, LTC Stephen Baffic, is a Physician's Assistant in the Georgia Air National Guard  assigned to the medical group of the 116th Air Control Wing at Robins Air Force Base. This unit deals with monitoring air to ground surveillance. He is currently a part of the Homeland Defense Nuclear Biological Response Team and volunteered to travel to the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar to support and take care of air crews from all over the country. LTC Baffic secretly arrived home last Friday after his 2 1/2 month deployment. He had Hallie, and her mom JoAnne, completely fooled as he chatted with them via Face Time prior to the Cross Country meet on Saturday morning. The excitement on Hallie's face is easy to see as she manages to pick up speed after finishing the 5K course. LTC Baffic stresses, " I really want to highlight the sacrifice of military families, the family member in uniform has the easy job. Our families constantly give up time and hold down things at home."

Click on the photo above to view a video of the happy homecoming!

Welcome home, LTC Baffic, and thank you for your service!
