Good Luck at World Championships Robotics Team! |
Our FIRST Robotics Team has qualified to attend the World Championships in St. Louis, Missouri this week. This is an incredibly huge deal for our students, especially as a first year team. Only 17% of rookie teams this year qualified to attend champs.
Our students will be competing against 599 other teams from 10 different countries, and 46 of the US states. Not to mention, our robot will play on the floor of an NFL stadium with tens of thousands of people in the audience, and tens of thousands more watching at home. In addition to the competition, nearly 50 universities will be there recruiting kids for their engineering programs, along with dozens of corporations (such as Boeing, SpaceX, Microsoft, and NASA) looking for summer interns. This is such an incredible opportunity for our students. Good luck to our High Energy Robotics Team, you guys have already made us so proud!

The Woods Project Camping Club went backpacking April 1-3 in Sam Houston National Forest. Students hiked over ten miles during the weekend, and camped in the middle of the forest. Students learned how to live out of a backpack, cook over a camp stove, make a camp fire, purify river water for drinking, and stay warm during the 40 degree night! Last weekend, the Camping Club participated in the Walk for the Woods, in support of The Woods Project, the non-profit organization that organizes our camping trips.

Last week, several members of the C-STEM club were interviewed by representatives from C-STEM and NRG in an effort to better understand Energy Institute and what makes it unique. The visit was facilitated by Dr. Hall and Dr. Flowers, the founder of C-STEM. Dr. Flowers' passion for STEM education combined with her social entrepreneurial spirit, expertise in partnership development, curriculum and program design, and project management have made her a leading advocate for STEM education. Dr. Flowers led a discussion with Energy students that included questions ranging from daily routines and time management to their future career interests and goals. Energy is very thankful for the opportunity for our students and for the interest C-STEM and NRG have shown in our students! |
Intel Education Visionaries Program |
Energy has been selected to participate in Intel's Education Visionaries program. The project provides Energy with 5 Intel-powered Arduino programming boards, a starter kit of accessories and some getting started resources to set up a makerspace for Energy. Ms. Alexander is working on this initiative for our school and we are extremely excited about the opportunity to build our makerspace into the premier engineering and STEM space in the district! |
IPAA Externship Recipients |
Congratulations to our students who have been selected to participate in the IPAA PESA externship program!
