Where

Doorways for Women and Families, a nonprofit organization based in Ballston, creates pathways out of homelessness, domestic violence and sexual assault leading to safe, stable and empowered lives. While these issues are unique in many ways, they intersect frequently. Far too often, survivors of violence must choose between staying in an abusive situation, or fleeing and risking homelessness for themselves and their children. That is why domestic violence is the immediate cause of homelessness for many women and children. For others, the basic need of a roof overhead can lead to dangerous living environments in which sexual abuse and/or violence is a horrible consequence. Experiencing any one of these issues in your lifetime is traumatic, but many clients have experienced all three prior to coming to Doorways. Through a four-tiered strategy that includes an immediate safe response to those in crisis, pathways to emergency shelter and long-term housing, and a Comprehensive Services Model that is tailored to each family's strengths, Doorways meets both immediate and long-term needs while also working to address the economic and societal issues that lead to violence, poverty and homelessness.

We invite you to watch this video to learn more about how Doorways creates pathways to brighter futures!
