World  Telecommunications and Information Society Day (17 May 2016)

This year the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD-2016) is themed: "ICT entrepreneurship for social impact".

This focus is to reflect the importance of ICT entrepreneurs and start-ups and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and their role in ensuring economic growth. They are involved in the development of innovative ICT-enabled solutions with a unique potential to make a long-lasting impact in global, regional and national economies and as an important source of new jobs, especially for youth, in the current knowledge economy.

A fantastic local example of ICT entrepreneurship is Clevertar - A Flinders University spinout taking their 'clever avatar' Anna Cares to the USA. Anna Cares is a cloud-based solution that allows aged and disability service providers to keep in contact with clients in their homes and to check that they are taking their medications and taking part in daily activities.

The Adelaide medical technology company has given its powerful virtual "health coach" new abilities to respond to the needs of millions of diabetes sufferers worldwide.  The latest product is being rolled out, along with a suite of new products, with support from a $420,000 Australian Government commercialisation grant and $600,000 investment by its first third-party partner Konica Minolta.  The SA based company's virtual relational agent is conducting a pilot trial of the diabetes coach in Pennsylvania ahead of a staged expansion in America.
