The mission of NH Public Health Association (NHPHA) is to help strengthen the state's public health system to improve health, prevent disease, and reduce costs for all.

HEAL director, Terry Johnson partners with the NHPHA as he continues to serve on their Board of Directors.

Terry brings a voice to the NHPHA for policy approaches to addressing obesity and chronic disease through increasing equitable access to options for getting around; safe places to play and be active; and healthy food in New Hampshire.

HEAL supports the NHPHA to integrate public health with other sectors, including community planning, transportation, recreation and food systems.

What happens when the funding ends? In Nashua, the work continues!

Plan4Health Nashua  illustrates how community planning and public health have common ground when promoting policies that ensure safe and equitable access to physical activity and healthy eating.

The project has also demonstrated that community members from all sectors will come together - from elected officials to a baseball team - because they care about public health, economic growth and livability.

Furthermore, in Nashua and in many other HEAL communities, the great work has continued well after the original funding period.

We have two special guests attending this session: Doris Demers, Director of Food Services at Oyster River School District and Amy Cassidy, Director of Food Services for Nashua School District. They will be speaking to us about successes and challenges in Food Services as well as advice for those advocating for healthy food in schools.

The HEAL Community Network is made up of communities throughout New Hampshire that are advancing strategies in the Healthy People Healthy Places Plan. The group meets quarterly to network, collaborate, and learn from one another the challenges and successes out in the field.
Menu of Change: Healthy Food in Health Care Report

Walk into the cafe of any one of hundreds of healthcare facilities today and you'll be offered a selection of healthy meals made from fresh, local and organic ingredients.

This monumental change has resulted from the efforts of hundreds of people: food service directors, procurement officers, doctors, dieticians, community organizers, policy makers and the dedicated staff of Healthy Food in Health Care a national program of HEAL Partner, Health Care Without Harm.

Plan4Health Nashua chosen to receive a NADO 2016 Excellence in Regional Transportation Award

Is your community ready to take action?

Across New Hampshire, communities, organizations, and groups are partnering to take action on their communities' priority health issues; action that requires working collectively, thinking differently, and building the skills and capacity to accomplish this work.

HEAL NH has put together a workshop series designed to strengthen skill and leadership capacity for creating partnerships, implementing policy, and changing systems so NH communities have the opportunity for "healthy people in healthy places."

Who is this designed for? Anyone involved in initiatives, projects, or coalitions focused on community health planning, promotion, or education.

Join us for workshop #3 in our  Creating Healthy Communities workshop series:
