The media is invited to cover the Transit of Mercury observation session at Kopernik on Monday, May 9 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. We also would greatly appreciate any mention of this event in Public Service Announcements or news stories.

I am available to do interviews over the phone or in-person. This is a special celestial event that could spark significant public interest. Below, you will find some articles and a good simulation of what the transit will look like. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

 Transit of Mercury Observing Session
Monday, May 9, 2016
7 a.m. - 2  p.m.

On May 9, the planet Mercury will move directly between the Earth and the Sun. Viewers with telescopes that are fitted with special solar filters will be able to observe a dark disk (the planet Mercury) moving across (transiting) the Sun. Kopernik will be open regardless of weather conditions. If clear, you will be able to safely watch this event through Kopernik's telescopes, including the unique Heliostat which will allow many people to simultaneously view the transit. If cloudy, watch a live webcast of the transit.
