Let's Get Started!

Did you know that May is National Small Business Month and more specifically, May 1-7 is National Small Business Week?

Every year since 1963, the President of the United States has issued a proclamation announcing National Small Business Week, which recognizes the critical contributions of America's entrepreneurs and small business owners.

Why are small businesses so important?  More than half of Americans either own or work for a small business, and they create about two out of every three new jobs in the U.S. each year.  So during the month of May, take a moment to thank your favorite small business owner. Make sure to support the many local small businesses in town (including the ones featured in this month's newsletter!) that help to make Redwood City the great place we all love.

I hope you enjoy this month's newsletter. If you need to get a hold of me, I can be reached at [email protected] or 650-780-7204.
We Want to Hear from You!
Downtown Redwood City is a great place to visit with numerous restaurants, retail shops, a 20-screen movie theater, two live performance theaters and much more! The City of Redwood City wants your input around downtown shopping to help guide the potential growth of retail in Downtown.

Did you know Downtown Redwood City has over 100 retail stories, mixed with a wide range of options including three grocery stores, men's and women's retail, home furnishings, collectibles and more?
Your input will help the City of Redwood City look at future retail options and encourage different types of retail to locate within the Downtown.

Please take a few minutes to complete the "Shoppers Survey" on the City webpage. The survey is active till May 31st!

Around the Town
The Port of Redwood City has a long history dating back to the Gold Rush Era. At that time, the port was located near the area of the post office and city hall in today's downtown area. The Port was a bustling place shipping out huge quantities o f Redwood lumber being used to build San Francisco. In 1882 the port was moved to its current location east of Highway 101 along Seaport Boulevard.

Today's Port of Redwood City is not just an important economic commodity to the City but to the entire South Bay Region. It is the only deep water port south of San Francisco and is an important resource for the industrial uses located at the port. In addition, the port offers several locations for recreational boat access to the Bay for our residents to enjoy.

The port hosts several events throughout the year including the 4th of July Fireworks and Portfest in October. Click here for more information about the Port of Redwood City.
