Welcome to The Sixth Sense - the monthly newsletter of Brooklyn Community Board 6, serving the neighborhoods of Carroll Gardens/South Brooklyn, Cobble Hill, Columbia Street Waterfront, Gowanus, Park Slope and Red Hook.
April showers bring May flowers. And sunshine. And more rain.
Our celebration of the coming of spring coincides with the launch of our
Solarize BrooklynCB6 campaign with Sustainable CUNY and other City partners. If you've been curious about going solar, now's the time to take advantage of the program we've helped put together. Learn more about the solar option. Get your questions answered. Financing options are even available. Come to a workshop, host a presentation or workshop--if you've got an interested group, please let us know. The more participants we get, the more everybody saves.
The Department of Environmental Protection is also hosting a
public meeting on the Combined Sewer Overflow Long Term Control Plan (LTCP) for the Gowanus Canal on May 14, 6:00-8:00pm at PS 32, 317 Hoyt Street (at Union Street), Gowanus. The Gowanus LTCP will identify and evaluate alternatives to reduce the impacts of combined sewer overflows (CSOs) in our local waterway. CSOs are diluted mixtures of rainwater and untreated sewage which overflow into the canal during heavy rainfall when the sewer system is at capacity.
You can make a huge difference by harnessing the power of the sun and capturing and managing stormwater. Right here in our community. Because it's all in our backyard.
Work with Mother Nature. We're all in this together. It's our community!
Enjoy our newsletter, and please let us know what you would like to see in future editions.
P.S. If you like what you see here, please use the "Forward email to a friend" link at the bottom of the page to pass this email along to a friend or two. There are over 104,000 residents and thousands of businesses in our district. We'd love it if they would all sign up!
