'Let peace begin with me
Let this be the moment now.
With every step I take
Let this be my solemn vow.
To take each moment
And live each moment
With peace eternally.
Let there be peace on earth,
And let it begin with me.'

--by Jill Jackson Miller and Sy Miller

Hello members and friends,

As I write this, I am torn. I am so proud of our business community and all we are doing to work together towards our common goals. Communicating those efforts is the purpose of this newsletter, and we have a lot to share!  I cannot, however, shake the need to speak about the losses our community has recently suffered. I hope I can do both and also respect your time.

As someone who works and lives in Aurora, I want to sincerely thank Mayor Ann Womer Benjamin, Police Chief Bryan Byard, and the staffs of the City of Aurora overall and specifically the Aurora Police Department for representing our community so well in this time of mourning. The loss of Officer Steve Cieslak is most acutely felt by his loving family and friends, but our community grieves together. I also want to commend the police departments of neighboring communities who came together to pay their respects and support one another: Steve's work family, his brothers and sisters in blue.

There are no greater heroes than the members of our safety forces, and we owe them a debt of gratitude for taking every call, every day. Please remember to thank them for their service and, most of all, to respect the weight of their responsibilities as they do their jobs.

May is National Mental Health month.  It is estimated that 1 of 4 people in our country suffer from one of a variety of mental illnesses. The challenges are real, the treatments complicated, the stigma disheartening. Thankfully, there is hope.

Chamber member Portage Mental Health & Recovery Board provides an abundance of information about mental illness, including education as well as support services for those who are struggling and those who care for them. Please check them out: www.mental-health-recover.org

Here is a snippet of what you will find:

The mission of the Mental Health & Recovery Board of Portage County is to develop, manage and sustain a community-driven system of behavioral health treatment, prevention and recovery services. The values that guide the MHRB:
  • Break down stigma to encourage people through education and community support to seek help with the awareness that behavioral health is a health issue
  • Support and advocate for people with mental health and alcohol and other drug problems to address unmet needs as they undergo treatment and work toward recovery
  • Ensure that services are easily accessible and provided in a coordinated and collaborative manner across Portage County.
  • Operate as stewards of public funding to be responsive to community needs, encouraging the use of evidence-based practices that are both cost effective and clinically sound.
  • Respect the rights and dignity of all people, treating everyone in a just and equal manner
  • Empower people to be productive members of the community
Treatment works. People recover.
Let's work together on this.

If you need help, reach out to someone. Don't stop asking for help until someone understands. Not only will you give them the opportunity to support you, but you might open a window for them to get help for themselves, or someone else they know.

Let's also make it a point to be as kind as possible to one another. Our lives are busy, stressful, full. More than ever, kindness matters.  Let this be the moment now.

Thank you.

Please read through the rest of this newsletter for important information about what's happening in our business community. Visit us, email, or call to find out more. We are here for you.

Blessings,
Laura

HUNTINGTON BANK RANKS HIGHEST IN J.D. POWER
U.S. RETAIL BANKING SATISFACTION STUDY FOR 4TH STRAIGHT YEAR

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Huntington Bank holds the top spot for customer satisfaction within the North Central Region for the fourth consecutive year according to the 2016 J.D. Power U.S. Retail Banking Satisfaction Study(SM). Huntington outperformed its closest North Central Region competitor by 18 points and received the highest score in the region for Facility, Account Information, Fees and Channel Activities.

"All of us at Huntington value the opportunity to connect and work closely with customers to make a difference in their lives and across the communities where they live and work," said Mary Navarro, retail and business banking director. "We take great pride in listening intently to customer needs and working hard to facilitate their financial security. In light of that, we're grateful customers continue to rate their experiences at Huntington among the industry's best."

Huntington's prominence atop the J.D. Power U.S. Retail Banking Satisfaction Study for four consecutive years reflects ongoing efforts to develop groundbreaking financial services, answering the call for a simpler, more straight-forward approach to helping customers manage their financial lives.

Through calculated investments in customers, employees and infrastructure, and in a distinct move to add value through the advent of its 'Fair Play' banking philosophy and delivery of Asterisk-Free Checking and industry first, 24-Hour Grace®, Huntington has experienced industry-leading consumer household growth of 62 percent (585,000 households) over the last six years. During that time, Huntington experienced 8 percent compound annual revenue growth (28 percent total revenue growth), and profits have increased significantly, as its cumulative stock price rose by 161 percent.
