Dear St. John the Baptist Families,

Welcome to the month of May!  This month is our last full month of school and our schedules are busier than ever!  We know that each important event before us will be filled with much joy, meaning and growth and we ask The Lord to guide us each step along the way!

I wish a very Happy Mother's Day to all of the mothers in our community.  We honor and thank all of the mothers who give of their time, talent and love to their children in a special way.  I pray all mother's will enjoy a day of appreciation and relaxation with their families on Sunday.

I also ask you to join me in celebrating and appreciating our hard working teachers and staff members next Tuesday 5/10 as we celebrate Teacher's Appreciation Day.  We know that today is the "official" Teacher's Appreciation Day, but our calendars were "set" for next Tuesday and we thank the PTG in advance for working to provide a wonderful lunch for our faculty and staff.

Did You Know?  That we had the Healthy Kids Fun Run assembly today and you should be expecting an email and a pledge sheet sent home with your child/ren from the folks at the Fun Run to introduce the ways to earn money for your child's giving profile?  That our new Summer School Program has a deadline of May 20th in order for us to confirm that courses listed will be offered?  We will do our best to confirm classes to all who have placed a deposit down shortly after the 20th.

Request for Prayers:  We also pray for those who are battling illness, those who are hungry and homeless, those who are unemployed and for those who are suffering loss.

Blessings for a Wonderful Week!
Preschool Needs Your Donations for PPP Hours
Our preschool program will frequently be using the courtyard area between the church and school as a play area and we would love to create a special space for our littlest community members.  We are requesting "gently used" Little Tykes or other brand play equipment that would be appropriate for 3-5 year olds.   Might you have an item in your home that your family has outgrown? PPP Hours will be given for donations of play items such as:
Picnic Table
Play Kitchen
Sand Box
Play Kitchen Utensils
Soft Play Mats
Dress Up Clothing/Costumes
Please contact our Preschool Director Molly Fivian at:  [email protected] if you have a donation!

Girl Scout and Boy Scout Fair This Friday!
SCOUT FAIR IS MAY 13TH AT ST. PAUL'S SCHOOL!
Tuesday, May 10th is TEACHER APPRECIATION DAY!
We have an amazing group of teachers and staff who go beyond the call of duty to ensure a safe and enriching environment for our children.  They are welcoming to our students with smiles and love, rain or shine, every day.  Once a year, as a community we honor these wonderful women and men who serve us, and our children so well.  The PTG will honor the teachers and staff with a lunch on Tuesday 5/10 and we ask that you consider honoring teachers/staff members by bringing in one or more of the following:
  • A favorite breakfast item or coffee drink
  • A flower (could be from your garden)
  • A favorite piece of fruit, candy or nuts
  • A letter of thanks, poem or artwork from you/your child

Get On The Bus!
It was my pleasure to have an opportunity last week to address all the students of St. Johns about our project
GET ON THE BUS. This is something very important for children who, unfortunately have a Mom or Dad in prison.

We watched a video of what happens on the day we visit the prison. We leave before dawn and travel to Chowchilla - six hours from here. We visit for three hours and then return home. It is a joyful but heart-breaking visit.

I wish you could have seen the very solemn  faces of the St. John's students after the video. I answered quite a few good questions - Why are they in prison? Can the children visit often? How much does the bus cost?
The question of visiting often allows me the chance to say that it is very expensive to travel to Chowchilla and many of the children  are poor.
The bus costs approximately $2,000 - $3,000  (insurance is high) with added costs for meals.

In the coming week, The Student Government of St. John's will be collecting donations of any any amount so that students can help those children less fortunate than they are. We thank you in advance for any amount of funding you can give to support this wonderful project.

May God bless all the families of St. John's
Sincerely,
Sr. Carmel
