Upcoming Events Video Featuring CAC Team Members Oklahoma Hotline to Report Abuse

Did you know that 1 in 14 children in Tulsa County are involved in a child abuse investigation or assessment?  This means one or two children in an average-sized classroom could be affected by abuse. Studies show that maltreated children often struggle to function at their peer level in school behaviorally, socially, emotionally and/or developmentally.

Over the next few weeks we will be sharing with you important information about how child abuse has an effect on these children and our local classrooms.  When abuse is identified and stopped, children have a better chance for success in school. At CAN, we work together with a team of professionals to intervene in the lives of these children and put them on a path that leads to healing.

This week our donor focus is on our amazing Board of Directors. These talented individuals give of their skills, resources, time and experience to help CAN serve the community. They are a working board who visit our offices regularly and show their commitment to our cause by not only supporting our work but encouraging others to do so. This is a special thank you to each of you - we are so happy to have you!

CAN works regularly in the community to address signs and symptoms of child abuse. We often educate parents on steps that they can take to defuse situations that can lead to frustration and anger and sometimes abuse. This is one important step that we and our supporters, like you, can be a part of -- stopping child abuse before it happens.

Yesterday, Amy Howard, a Child Specialist at CAN sat down with Tulsa's News Channel 8 to talk about the importance of parents and caregivers being self-aware as they react to frustrating circumstances. CLICK HERE to view.

Team members of the Children's Advocacy Center share their stories of helping children going through a child abuse investigation and why it's so important for the Tulsa community to be supportive. Team members include: Rose Turner (Child Abuse Network Managing Director), Miranda Park (Department of Human Services of Oklahoma Child Welfare Worker), Dr. Michael Baxter (Pediatrician with OU Medical), Assistant District Attorney Sarah McAmis (Director of Crimes Against Children) and Detective Aubrie Thompson (Tulsa Police Department Child Crisis Unit).
