- Kim Kreider Umble, President & CEO, Lebanon Family Health Services

...............................................................................................................................

"I've been a member of the Lebanon Valley Chamber of Commerce for over 17 years and can't imagine doing business in the Lebanon Valley without my membership. As a small business it can be difficult to get 'in the door.' I'm an active chamber member and regularly attend events and participate in committees. This gives me the opportunity to meet business leaders, community leaders, and decision makers. Not only have I gained valuable business contacts but I feel like I'm part of my community, contributing to the welfare and future success of this area. I have steadily increased my business from Chamber contacts and in 2014, 40 percent of my business came from connections made through the Chamber."

- Karen Groh, Owner,  IA Design

Lancaster-Lebanon IU13 Community Education Program
By Christina Davis, Supervisor, Lancaster-Lebanon IU13

The Lancaster-Lebanon IU13 Community Education program in Lebanon County provides high-quality, life-changing educational services. Our collaboration with the Workforce Alliance helps to ensure a stronger workforce in Lebanon County. IU13 Community Education classes prepare adults and youth for the workplace or post-secondary education. Students interested in obtaining employment in high priority occupations such as health care and manufacturing can take classes to prepare themselves to enter certification and post-secondary programs.
Each month about 280 inmates are released in Lebanon County. Research shows that participating in re-entry education substantially lowers a person's odds of returning to prison. IU13 Community Education was awarded a federal grant to offer free services for incarcerated individuals and those re-entering our community who want to pursue education and career opportunities.
Please feel free to contact IU13 Community Education for more information at 717-450-1525. Strong partnerships within our community are important for opportunities and growth. The Workforce Alliance helps in facilitating these partnerships.

Employee Training Page!!!

Back in September of 2015, the Chamber reported on the partnerships emerging between three, local post-secondary institutions in Lebanon County: Lebanon Valley College (LVC), HACC Central Pennsylvania's Community College, and the Lebanon County Career and Technology Center (LCCTC).
September's newsletter article stated, "One partnership endeavor involves creating a Web page on the Lebanon Valley Chamber of Commerce's website which current or prospective students can access in order to get more information. This site will be a one-stop resource for the community detailing all of the education programs available in the Lebanon Valley."
Now, that "one-stop" resource has become a reality! The "Employee Training" Web page is now live on the Chamber's website! This page details all of the various educational programs available to help employers to grow their workforce and employees to enhance their skills through professional development! Contact information for the various facilities is likewise listed! The Chamber still has a separate "Education" page with general information on the Lebanon Valley's schools, from K-12 to college.
We hope that you will check out our new "Employee Training" page! The Chamber is happy and proud to partner with LVC, HACC, and LCCTC as we work toward enhancing and developing the workforce in the Lebanon Valley!

Five Types Of Insurance That Help Protect Small Businesses

No matter what type of business you own, you operate under some degree of risk. Sadly, no business is completely immune to lawsuits. Fortunately, however, a variety of insurance options exist to help protect small businesses.

Among the most common types of small business insurance are...

General Liability Insurance
Also known as commercial general liability insurance, this type typically covers claims associated with accidents or injuries on your property or your clients' premises. General liability policies offer financial protection in the event of bodily injury, property damage, medical expenses, libel, slander, and the cost of defending lawsuits.

Home-Based Business Insurance
Because homeowner's insurance policies don't usually cover home-based business losses, you might consider adding riders to your policy if you run your business from your home. They can help protect you against financial loss due to normal business risks such as property damage. Realize, however, that coverage may be limited and other forms of insurance might provide better protection.

Professional Liability Insurance
This type of insurance is generally geared toward professional services providers. It's also commonly known as errors and omissions insurance and protects your business against claims of damages that your advice or services caused through malpractice, errors, or negligence.

Lebanon County Career and Technology Center is proud to partner with Visit Lebanon Valley to help promote the 2016 Fireball Run™
By Staci Stettler, Adult Education Coordinator, LCCTC
Fireball Run is an eight-day, 2,000-mile, life-sized, trivia pursuit road rally competition. While taking the road less traveled, which happens to bring this year's contestants to Lebanon County in September, 40 driving teams race to locate America's most obscure places and discover historic artifacts. You can watch the fun live-streamed on the Fireball Run YouTube channel .
In addition to the excitement of the competition, this event brings awareness to missing children; proceeds support the Child Rescue Network.  Every driving team is assigned a child missing from their home of origin, and they distribute 1,000 missing child fliers along the way.  Fireball Run is one of the largest groups aiding to recover America's missing children, and has helped in the recovery of 44 missing children .
This 10 th  anniversary of the Fireball Run promises to be an exciting time in the Lebanon Valley as there are many activities planned throughout the community to celebrate this historic event. In the meantime, there's much preparation, organization, promotion and work to be done.
In addition to being one of the event's sponsors, LCCTC students and staff are honored to be able to work behind the scenes to help prepare for this event. Instructor Tom Giovarelli and his media communications students created the promotional video.  They did a wonderful job - check it out at https://youtu.be/Yu_Jc14bVto . This video highlights all the Lebanon Valley has to offer.  It's no wonder the producers decided to make a stop in our neighborhood!
Wayne Hagy and the commercial art & design students are designing the logo for promotional pins; they are also creating and printing posters and banners that will been seen throughout the community.  During the event, our culinary arts and pastry arts students will have the privilege to work directly with participants, production crews, and sponsors. Thanks to the expertise and experience with banquet planning, our chefs, Robert Corle and Brian Peffley, will oversee and assist as LCCTC students prep and serve one of the meals. LCCTC's Hilltop Restaurant and Pastry Shop is a hidden gem in the community, open to the public for lunch from October to May. Call 273-8551 x 2113 for reservations.

LLV Leadership Day
Kenny Montijo, CEO of the United Way of Lebanon County, discusses purposeful networking with event attendees.
Mental health, generational differences, public speaking...These were just a few of the topics discussed at the Leadership Day Workshop Series held at StoneRidge Retirement Living in Myerstown on Tuesday, April 12. This event, part of the Chamber's Leadership Lebanon Valley program, was designed for emerging and established community leaders, and included lively and informative presentations and participant questions and discussion. Each participant had the opportunity to network with and learn from a variety of community leaders. The workshop was open for both LLV students, alumni, and members of the public.
Each attendee selected two workshop sessions to attend in the morning, and two to attend in the afternoon.  The morning sessions included a workshop focusing on "Workplace Mental Health." This was a workshop instructed by Andy Seebold, MBA, SPHR, director of business services for WellSpan Health. The workshop featured ways to best support and respond to employees with mental health challenges. Another session included "Goal Setting for Direct Reports." This workshop was instructed by Jason Trout, vice president of development and community affairs for WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital. Here, attendees learned how to influence high performance and coach for success. The last session for the morning was called "Building Effective Work Relationships." This was instructed by Marilyn Walker, president and CEO of synergize! The workshop provided practical tips on how to establish quality relationships with coworkers... Read More
